Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

ZION NATIONAL PARK by SHUTTLE

Our drive up to Zion National Park.  Zion meaning "promised land".
Cell towers on the top left.
Wonder how they get up there!

Don't think I'd want to live there!

But they would have an awesome view!

We can tell that we are getting closer to the Visitor's Center, mountains are high and closer, there are many B&B's and Inns along the way.  We will take the shuttle this time and come back later for hop-offs at each site and Gary's hike.
NOTICE THE MANY COLORS from mud, lime, sand, and ash!! Everything in Zion takes life from the Virgin River's scarce desert waters. Water flows, and solid rock melt into cliffs and towers, from the freezing and thawing of water. .  Landscape changes as canyons deepen to create forested highlands and lowland deserts. In this desert the water creates most of what we see.  It begins north of Zion on the 11,000 foot high Colorado Plateau and then races downhill, eventually to the Mojave Desert lands and the Colorado River and Lake Mead. I'm not this knowledgeable, but have taken the information from the brochure!

Peaks called Abraham, Isaac and Jacob

I think that Gary is going to do a
colored pencil of this.

Hello out there!

We are in the valley where the Virgin River flows.
You can see in the right side of the picture
where the valley takes a turn

Gary thinks that he is going to freeze.
He's gotten to be a wimp after the AZ temps.

The colors are so awesome!

Esther, you can take your horse rides through the valley.

A lot of lava rock on some of the mountains also.

This the beginning history of Mormons when they came into this area in 1847.  Today we drove into St. George and happened upon Young's winter home.  I will do another Blog with that info.
Just a little history.
I hope that you enjoy these pictures as much as we do and the lovely colors in the sandstone.  Then there is constant change from  rocks tumbling to the valley after freezes and thaws.  Then the flash floods follow that!.  I don't think that I would want to build in the area, but it is beautiful.
Take care and we will see what another day brings.
