Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

MORE AUGUST IN OHIO

Tuesday, August 10th, we drove over to Medina to visit with Gary's nephew, David and his wife.  We had a great visit with them and they served us dinner, before we returned to the motorhome in Berlin Center.  It was quite a difference in traffic returning home from the time we drove over there.  We need to remember to stay away from Akron during the work/shopping day.  Thanks David and Ryka, it was a great visit!!

I finally made a call to our friends who returned to Ohio (Alliance) this year.  They were in Salem before we hit the road.  But while we were on the road, we visited them at their new home in South Carolina.  It was great visiting with you, Jan.  We will stop over to spend some time with you real soon.

On Friday, the 14th we did the Art Reception at the Salem Historical Museum and also went to the fund raiser here at the park where we are parked for the summer.  Had to show you the guys who did our tasty chicken for the dinner,  They did a great job!!

Doug on the left is the park manager.
He is doing a great job.  We see a good
improvement in the park's appearance!!

Gary has been going to a wood carving group at the Presbyterian Church in Canfield at least once a month to work with other carvers. Things are always more fun/interesting when done with others!!

Audrey joined a lady's luncheon at the First Friends Church in Salem which was planned by Cindy.  I never knew that there was such a thing held in the area.  It was awesome and I hope to attend it more often.  I took a RVing friend, Jane, with me.  The gal, Sara, who spoke did a great job.  Her testimony was very inspiring!!

Marjorie, Jane, Karen and Donna who
sat at the same table where I did, all
attend First Friends.

I have been getting pictures picked out for a scrapbooking work day to be held the Friday and Saturday, September 10th and 11th at the Presbyterian Church in Sebring, Ohio.  Our little group will be going on Friday.  I am looking forward to that time to work and visit with others!!

Our summer sure has been moving along quickly!!  It will soon be time to do our fall birthdays dinner.  We always do that before we head south.  Most of the family birthdays are in the fall.  Today is mine, another year older!!  I am beginning to feel it, unfortunately!!

You all have a healthy summer.  I hear more rumor of covid, so we are all concered.  But I do believe that it is something that we must get accustomed to!!  Take care!!

MORE SUMMER ACTIVITES - -

Gary has been cleaning out notebooks, etc. So guess we will have a fire some day soon!  It gives him more space in his art area in the back of the motorhome!  Keep going Gary!!  Just leave my scrapbooking stuff alone!!

This past Friday, August 13th, I went to scrapbook with three friends, Leah, Eugenia and Betty at Leah's home south of Lisbon.  Surprising, in spite of all of the talking and going out to lunch at Pondi's, I did get quite a bit done.  I went prepared with printed journaling to add to my pages.  And Pondi's fried fish sandwich dinners were delicious!  Plenty of left over for Gary.

Leah made us cupcakes to
celebrate two August birthdays.
I won't tell you the numbers!!
Saturday, August 14th, Gary had volunteered to show some of his colored pencil drawings at the Salem Historical Museum.

Another young fellow, Ryan Boyce, showed his photography art also.  He is quite good!!  His display was very interesting and he discussed it in detail!!  You can see that Dave Stratton is interested.
His train photo on the wall to your right,
was a fast moving train, with cars parked off in the
back ground wooded area in front of the train.
He removed the cars from the scene.
And you could see small parts of the train
in spite of the speed.

A better view of the train!!
The entire table and above it, is Ryan's display.

Gary's art is the bottom row on the tables.
Some of Gary's '63 class friends,
Jean, Maria and Connie,
visiting also.

Audrey's class of '62 held a luncheon at Boar's Cafe' on Salem's south side bypass, Thursday, July 22nd. An enjoyable time, but needed more attending!!

I did not know of this cafe', not sure how long it has been there.  But they did have good food!!
Both of our classes have lunch out, usually every month. It is good to keep in touch with people. Keeps us feeling younger!!
Have a great day!!

OUR SUMMER LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES

After arriving at Northeast Ohio Retreat Center for our summer camping location, activities began at the center.  They have had a couple dinner fund raisers and the cooks outdid themselves with the barbecue chicken!!
This is our location for this season in Ohio and we've reserved it for next year's summer season also!! We couldn't beat the price and the location was what we had asked for. We very seldom see neighbors on our entrance side of the motorhome but the family on the other side of us are very nice.  Children come and go all day long, but they are very well behaved!!
Our home year around.

Gary cleaned up the fire ring and
set it up on bricks. So we are good to go.

We do not sit around a fire ring very often,
but we know that we can cook there!!

Our RVing friends, Bill and Jane have stopped to visit a couple times.  One of those times we took them to meet our friends here at the Center, Jim, Carol and Nancy to play cards for the evening. Had a great time!!

We have gone in to our condo in Boardman to pick up Gary's art for a show in Salem and I also go to the condo to do laundry.  So much better than going to a laundromat. We can pretend that we are at home!!  Victor is there full time and looks after things for us.  He's a good home sitter!!

A visitor in the Retreat Center.
Gary had to get pictures!
It put us in mind of what my older
brother wanted to do. Though he never
did get to do it!

This tent camper was in view from us
here in the park.

Let me think!!

Some of the cars visiting the park
for church services for the children's
camp week as we could view them from
our motorhome.

The hayride was one of their activities.

Gary did attend one of the evening services.

The golf cart parade was another
activity for that week.

Friends, Ron and Karen built a
cardboard bus around their golf cart.
Everyone was in awe!!

I've been busy reading and organizing my scrapbooking materials.  And Gary built a new yard golf game for our daughter-in-law, Lynn.  We had given the first game that he had made years ago away to a pastor's little kids in Arizona.  We had carried it for years in the motor home and never used it so thought there was no point it carrying it with us any longer.  Surprise!!  Lynn did want it, so she can find a place to keep it!

Gary has been finding bass wood for carving. So he is very happy!!

He does a lot of drawing as well.  He was in a little show at the Historical Society Museum in Salem, which turned out well.  Now time to store the drawings away back in the condo.
We have done some of our usual yard sales,  which is always fun.  A city wide one in Sebring, Ohio and another community one the next day. We did find a few things in these rows of piles, some needed and some just useable.  I found old butter bowls like we used to use for everyday cereal bowls when our boys were kids.  Had to have those for memory sake!!  Gary also got a nice tennis racket bag that will work for Lynn to keep the yard golf game in!!

We are looking forward to one on Rt. 7 going from north side of Youngstown to Lake Erie come first weekend of September.  It makes us realize just how fast our summer is going!!
Gary is going to help a few friends from our S.S. group this afternoon who are planning to help a lady classmate move.  Hope the rain holds off for that.
I will show you pictures from the art show and my scrapbooking with friends in my next blog.  So stay tuned and stay healthy.   Have a good summer in spite of all of the rain.
