Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

ARRIVED AT MR Z 's NEAR LEXINGTON, SC and MOVED ON INTO FLORIDA

Thursday, October 17th we arrived and settled in at Mr. Z's RV Park.
Friend, Sandy and I went thrift shopping the next day around Lexington and Columbia, SC. I found a few things, especially Christmas decorating things for crafts to send back to Lynn in Ohio.  Lynn, enjoy that extra work!!
We went to Bible Study on Wednesday and enjoyed the new teacher.  The pastor, Jack, and his wife, Vicky, were away for a family funeral.  So we missed seeing them.
But our friends, Mary and Johnny just got back from seminar/vacation, so we enjoyed seeing them!
Gary got to spend time with Sandy's husband, Mike while Sandy and I scrap booked.  It was good time, beneficial to both.  And Sandy fixed dinner for us one evening.

October 24th,  we asked Sandy, Mike, Mary and Johnny to join us at Shealy's southern cooking buffet!

That was the preferred place for celebrating our 55th Anniversary according to Gary!!

Mary and Johnny treated us!!  Thank you so much!!  It was awesome! Best Anniversary gift!!

Our next stop was one night at Walk About RV Park near Brunswick, GA.

Guess the chickens thought it was their walk about park also!
Richard, we thought you would enjoy this!

Our travels continued on the next day to Sumter Oaks RV Park in southern Bushnell, FL. We will be here for six days and we went to a Baptist church in Center Hill yesterday to be able to see friends, Lee and wife, Karen while here.  Lee was our first Sunday School teacher here in Bushnell in 2008.  Gary keeps in contact with him and they have retired recently and Lee is now an ordained minister.

When going to Walmart for velcro this morning, Gary drove through Blueberry RV Park to see if our friend from Illinois is down here yet.  He said it did not look like it.  I have emailed her and our other friends from Niagara Falls in Canada, who we met here a few years back.  Hope they get back to us about their winter plans.  Not sure what else we might do around here.  But check back and see.
Take care and God Bless you all.

WINDING DOWN - - WINTER IS COMING!

OCTOBER at last!!
Gary went to his last First Tuesday gathering at Inner Circle in Poland.  Much catching up there.

Audrey had her second evening with Home Savings friends at Mike's Penn Grille, but there were not as many attending this time.  We really missed the ones who said they would be there, but were not able to make it after all.  So keep tuned for next summer!!
I am going to share some pictures that Marsha shared with us in July on our first gathering of Home Savings, Salem people. She entered these in the Canfield Fair.  I did not know of her talent, so I am happy to share it!
Sorry, but my picture taking was not
up to par on this one!  A lot of detail here!
No ribbon here, but I think there should have been!

Red ribbon.  The shading was awesome on this!!
My last Scrapbook day on Perry Street in Salem, which includes card making and some crocheting, was fun but always sad to know it will be another year before we are together again.

We did a cook-out at Rich and Lynn's with my sister's great chicken recipe for the grill.  Lynn had never had this chicken before, but she sure found out what she was missing!  It was a good thing that I prepared as much as I did!!  We had a few days of leftovers.
During our time out and about, we happened upon a Craft Show at Bunker Hill Methodist Church. We had to share this liquid acrylic art work.  She even teaches it.  So Savannah, check it out!

Monday, October 7th, we had Richie and Savannah meet us at the Dutch Haus for dinner.  It was wonderful to have one-on-one time with them!!!  We must do that more often!!  He shared more about work and she shared her interest in art.

We ran into a friend from days past at First Friends Church who works there.  So we introduced the kids to her and picked her brain about employment there.

I got started on Christmas gift shopping after I found something that I had to get for Lynn, our daughter-in-law.  So I finished up the very last day before we left.  I had fun doing this, but did not find anything for Victor.  I am sure that he can do better with money to add to his camera collection anyway!

Our last Sunday together was at Royal Chinese Buffet and Grille in Boardman.  We invited our friend, Rick to join us.  And I ordered a cake to Celebrate our upcoming 55th anniversary on October 24th.

Richie, Savannah, and Lynn
Victor must be sharing something interesting!

Guess it is time to head south when I have to dress like this to keep warm in the evening!!

Our next stop is West Virginia!! Then Mt Airy, North Carolina and on to Lexington, South Carolina to visit for a week with our friends there.  Stay tuned.

OHIO, MORE CATCH-UP TIME WITH FRIENDS and RELATIVES.

Golly, I've gone more than a month without writing a Blog!!  I forget too much in that length of time!! Must not do that.
I think that we got too caught up in running around in Ohio and then getting ready to hit the road. So now that we are on the road, I must try to get caught up!!
September we were doing our usual meeting with friends, relatives and medical catch-ups.

Saturday, September 7th,  Gary's '63 class luncheon our friend Sandy came up from Beckley WV and had a grade school classmate meet us at Annabell's Restaurant.  When I mentioned that I had been married in the little white church across the road there, Sandy's friend, Sharon said, "Oh, I went to church there!" I would never have guessed that I knew her!!! I guess that is what fifty-five years does to our memory! And of course, we did change a little in appearance.  We did a lot of reminiscing and some picture sharing.
Audrey with Sharon Ehrhart-Hoffman
Tuesday, September 17th, we met with Larry and Gloria for dinner and sharing at Bone Shaker's in Salem.  It was great!
We also got to spend time with Audrey's cousin Larry and his wife, Betty.  Gary and Larry also went to the Canfield Fairgrounds for the Classic Cars and Parts.
Thursday, September 19th, we also had an opportunity to meet up with Victor's former boss, Mike and his wife, Judy, at Applebee's in Alliance.  It was good to catch up even though we had to choose a different location because our favorite place, N. Georgetown Stage Coach Inn, was badly burned a few months earlier.  It was good to hear what they have been doing in their retirement and Victor and Mike shared info about what is going on at SES these days.  Mike and Judy have been in Florida also, so we are hoping to catch up with them there also.
Gary, Audrey, Victor, Judy and Mike
Gary and Victor spent another day going through Mill Creek Park in Boardman for some picture taking. Victor has really been enjoying his hobby with his new cameras and Gary was hoping to get some new material for his pencil drawings.

Victor

They were not able to get near the old mill because of road construction, so that will have to wait for next year!
On Sunday, September 22nd, We also got together at Richard and Lynn's for celebration of five Sept. and Oct. birthdays.  I almost forgot to take pictures, so only got a couple.  We always have a good time and good food!!
Richard

Savannah with her new friend!

Savannah with her expanding hobby, painting with acrylics..
I did not get pictures of Gary, Richie and Miranda who also celebrated! Next time!!

We also took an evening to have dinner with Bill and Esther at DeRienzo's while they are back in Ohio from their winter home in Florida.
And I went out to dinner with my friend, Louise Wed, the 25th, where she gave me a birthday surprise. I thought it was cute, so had to show you

We made an afternoon visit to our other RVing friends, Bill and Jane.  They are up from Florida for some doctor visits and will leave from here to go to Arizona for their winter.

Stay tuned for another Blog or two. We will be hitting the road soon to head south for the winter.
