Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

THANKSGVING WEEK with VICTOR VISITING US in FLORIDA

We are ending November today!!  Time is flying, but Thanksgiving and our son, Victor visiting us for a week sure hurried it along!!

We took Victor down near Port Charlotte to visit cousins one day and then went over near Sebring, Florida to see Hammond State Park another day.  Other then that he got to vegitate as he wished.  Certainly a vacation!!

Thanksgiving crew in the kitchen,
taking care of the turkey, stuffing,
mashed potatos and gravy.

Victor and Audrey waiting for dinner!

Bud and Marsha, our table companions.

Gary went around the Club House
taking pictures of other residents
of our park.

The residents in the Park brought carry-in dishes to share to round out the dinner.  Needless to say we were stuffed when we left the Club House.

The Tuesday before Thanksgiving we took Victor down near Port Charlotte to visit cousins and then went over near Sebring, Florida to see Highland Hammock State Park the Friday before he left us.  Other than that he got to vegitate as he wished.  Certainly a vacation except the four days of driving to get here and back

Vic's cousin, Tina,
and her daughter, Becky,
and grand daughter, Kaelyn

Tina's other daughter, Amanda
with another of Tina's grand daughters, Lydia,
and an adopted grandson, Michaes from Ethiopia.
Victor is taking it all in.

Michaes was proudly showing his wood carving that he is doing at school.  It was beautiful!!

One of Kaelyn's paintings:

Kaelyn is also a book illustrator for a couple of children book authors. It looks like she has a bright future ahead of her!!   We are proud of them.

Our tour of Highland Hammock State Park  included the CCC Museum and a Tram ride and narration through the Park.  Very Interesting wild life and plant life!!  The tour guide was very knowledgable.

Victor watching birds and trees.

Gary, his view will be where he's been!!

the tree, and how it was filled

The shade from the trees sure did not
enhance my pictures!!

Alligator headed back into the water.

Hard to see, but a bird with
black and white wings.  Our tour guide
had names for them all, but I had no
place to write them down!!

the plants living on the
trunks of the trees.
Again I can not
remember names he gave.

I'm having a terrible time lining the next pictures up across the page.  I think that I need a class
on the new changes to Blogger!!!   Gr-r-r-r!!

GARY'S ART !!!

I don't remember who sent Gary the picture of this little boy.  But Gary was encouraged by it as it looked so much like our oldest son when he was this age!!  So Gary decided to draw it.

Gary also went to Sebring, FL to a wood carving group meeting and found this man working on his project.  WOW!!  Looks brave to me.  I'd love to see it when he is finished with it!!

Then a young couple who sit in front of us in Church gave Gary this photograph and Gary decided to try to draw it also.  I believe he is a great grandson of the gentleman that Gary did a drawing of last spring.

Gary said this has been one of the most difficult, because of the different textures, etc.  But Gary will finish it.  It might take a while, but I don't think that I've ever seen him quit.

Hope you enjoyed this little insert Blog.  I just had these pictures in a row and thought it would be good to do something with them.  Take care!!!!

VETERAN'S DAY PROGRAM at SKP RESORT

Thursday November 11th.  Nothing going on today except the Veteran's Day Program in the Clubhouse followed by a root-beer float.  It was an enjoyable program as much of the naration was of a personal family nature.  Our people do such a good job!!
The early arrrivals began enjoying
each other's company!

I do believe that I have the photos in reverse order of the program, but I will leave them this way.  It's too much hastle to make changes!
Bud and Marsha

Skip and his wife, Jan had parts.
But I failed to get a picture of Jan.

Our Fun and Sun President, Cathy
 opened the program.
Janet also shared.

They are getting the ice cream
ready in the kitchen also.

And more people begin to arrive!!  We always enjoy this day's events.  Last year it was a parade in golf carts.  I will do another Blog with some of Gary's Art and other events.

TREE TRIMMING AN ANNUAL EVENT IN OUR RESORT!!

I've been to LOWE'S for flowers, so my work has slowly begun.  I did decide to wait until the tree trimming has been done as they could reek havoc with my flower beds with their equipment and the branches falling!!  Last year the branches caused our outdoor table to break down.  Gary fixed it with a plywood table top and got a second table.  So we'll see how we fare this year.

The tree trimming on November 9th and we were glad to be one of the first lots done so that we can continue with my flower beds.  .  Gary skipped his Art Center in Sebring that day so that he was around for our clean-up.

They began over our shed.
We put a bucket over the bush.  I do believe
it will survive.

Plants covered with tables and tarps.

And now the clean-up begins!!  Gary did help with clean-up though the trimming company is paid for all of the work.  It was good to see the finish all though they sure trimmed them extreme.  It left us with very little shade.  So now we are using our awning extension shades.

Stay tuned for the Veterans Day Program. Hope your fall is still comfortable and pretty.  Take care and God Bless.

SKP RESORT - Evening around the CAMPFIRE!!

WOW!!  Time is sure rolling right along!!

I juat got a phone call asking me to handle once-weekly Bingo night beginning December.  I think that I will be okay with that.  I will handle money (no big pots!), and schedule the callers.  I hope to handle that okay.

That will be in addition to scheduling the ladies lunches once each month.  Once I finish planting my flowers and cleaning those beds, I will need something more to do.  We'll see how this slowing brain process of mine handles it all.  I do see myself slowing down so maybe I just need more to keep me moving.

Our anniveresary is behind us and our oldest son's visit is coming up.  So I will show what has happened in that span of time.  Victor should arrive sometime on Sunday the 21st.  He will do some sightseeing along his way, so we're not sure what his tie schedule will be.

Saturday, October 30th our park had a campfire and hotdog roast on the green.  We are not permitted to have individual fires at our sites, so we look forward to these group fires!!

Our Captain Kenny making sure that
each of us have rootbeer floats!!
He's good to us.

Roasting marshmallows and hotdogs!!

Jan and Audrey, center of picture,
talking a mile a minute, as usual.
It wasn't sunny since it gets dark so early!!
Our evenings sure are short.

We are seeing some change in people's
alertness in activities,
and that would include us as well.
This year sure has seemed to see change in us all.

Gary has been going to the early morning coffees here and goes out to his Art Centers, as well as his men's groups in the evening both at Church and in Sebring.  I just go to TOPS weekly, but that is most important on my schedule.  I am beginning to do my walking in the park.  I hope to be up to my full mile every day real soon.  I sure need it for mobility.   And Gary keeps up with the cleaning of the windows and such on the exterior.

Next I will do the first November Blog.  Stay with us.
