Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

TRIP NORTH from S CAROLINA to OHIO

Remember Mayberry RFD and Andy Griffith?
On our way back to Ohio, we stopped there in
North Carolina again
as it has such a nice campground!!

Our motorhome in the center of the picture
in the first row that you see.
We did go into town and drove around. But most of the time there was rain so we did not do much.

When leaving North Carolina behind, we headed north on I-79 to Beckley WV, traveling through the mountain tunnels, after which we stopped at Tamarak for two nights and met with Gary's high school classmate, Sandy.

Though Sandy and Gary graduated the same year, Sandy and I were in some classes together also.  So we usually stop to see her and catch up on her news.  She always takes us out to see some sites of the area.  This year she was recovering from back surgery and so was Billie.  But it seemed that Billie's recovery is taking much longer. When I first walked in her house, guess who greeted me!! Sandy, I knew that you would love this!!
The second day there Sandy took us to Grandview State Park and about town.
The entire parking lot was surrounded
by the pink and lavender rhododendrons.

Want to climb??

What a valley!!

Gary and Sandy at
New River Gorge, Turkey Spur Overlook.

Beginning of Grandview Rim Trail,
but we left that trek for the younger and
younger at heart!!

While about town, we stopped to check out an Antique Mall.  Loved this post with sign flag, and especially the carving at the bottom of the post, of a coal miner!!
Had to take a closer-up of the miner!!
I would love to buy this for at our new park site in Wauchula, Florida. But passed it up this trip because of the space it would take up in the motorhome.
Heading north on I-79 we missed the flying turkeys this time, but found that they must be cleaning or repairing the golden dome on the state capitol building.

Finally back in Ohio at NEO Retreat Center at Berlin Center on Wednesday, May 15th, we got busy setting up "home" for the summer.  Victor stopped by after work to show us his new car and welcome us.
Thursday, we did a washer load of towels that we had used to mop up water in the motorhome from when we pulled the living slide in after all of the rain that we lived through in North Carolina.  We had them hanging in the shower for the rest of our trip, but they did not dry out. So we were glad to get them done and dry!!
We also went to our son, Richard's to say "Hello" and to see them all including the goats and chickens.
Boy, was I welcomed!!  I guess they were looking for carrots.

Richard with the newest family members.
They were just over two or three weeks old.

Love the heart on it's back!!

Ah-h, carrots at last!!!

Here at the campground, it looks like the new manager is getting many of the old trashy looking RV's  moved out or cleaned up.  What an amazing change, but still many to go.
We should begin to see the weekenders coming in soon. And their church camp is the last two weeks in July.  Then we will see action.
You all take care and we hope to see friends beginning very soon.

OUR LAST WEEK near LEXINGTON, SOUTH CAROLINA

Thursday, May 2nd we had to get to Shealy's BBQ before two of our friends left on their Hawaiian Cruise.

Gary, Mike and Johnny.
You can see Gary's main interest!!  Food!!

Mary, Sandy and Audrey
After our dinner with Mary and Johnny,  Sandy and Mike took Gary and Audrey on to see the South Carolina Railroad Museum at Winnsboro north of Columbia SC.
It had a lot of neat stuff, though the actual trains need some restoration.  They are totally dependent on donations so that will be a long time coming.

Our narrator was awesome!!
She sure had her information with dates down pat!!

After going through the train, we went through their museum gallery and then checked out the other train cars in the back yard.

The mail car was very interesting.
Many of the deliveries they did not even stop,
just used an arm to swing out for delivery of
a mail bag.
Don, thought of you today!!

Unbelievable how elaborate some of the stations
in smaller towns were!!

We spent another day going to yard sales, but could not get into our church sale until it was about over because there was a very bad accident in front of the church when a lady from the church pulled out in front of another car.  It totaled both cars, and was a wonder that she was not severely injured!!

But we did have a fun day and some good bargains.

Sandy and I then spend another day doing scrap booking. We have so enjoyed the time together scrapping as well as great time visiting.  She lost her mother recently so has many-many photos to at least get into books to protect them.  And a good thing to get them done while she can remember many people in the pictures.

Sandy
After our day out and about, we spent time resting up at Sandy and Mike's. We got to watch the neighbor put up an air balloon.  It was awesome to watch, but over all too soon.

Awesome message also!!

Our time is about over here in SC.  We will leave tomorrow for North Carolina on our journey north. See you all soon!!
