Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

MORE OF TIMASHAMIE, FRIENDS and FAMILY

The weekend after we arrived Timashamie had their Annual Cardboard Boat Race.
Our grandson had not come to visit yet, so he was sorry to have missed it!
However since then, he has spent four days with us. He was swimming most of the time and we were glad that we were located right next to the pool. Makes it easier for Grandma and Pa to keep track of him. But he got bored when not in the pool. Our TVs are not compatible with his games, so he had four days of withdrawal.
We are going to visit friends tonight, and they have so kindly offered a 24 inch bike for him to use. He will be glad for that when he comes back out to the camp ground.
Yesterday we came back from a few days in Mentor visiting with my sister and brother. We went to church there also to say "Hello" to all of my cousins! I have a lot in that area.
It was our first time to see my sister's new condo. (And I forgot to take pictures outside!) However, the inside is nice and Gary and I were nodding "yes" we could live in one of these some day! But we are not ready yet!!
While my sister and I visited and worked on the computer, Gary did some of his pencil drawing in the dining area and his computer "work" and TV '"usual" in the living room. While we girls spent a day shopping, he went to shop with and visit my brother. He helped him put together a large book case also.
He is in a large Retirement community and seems to like it well. It is good for him because of the housekeeping set-up and three square meals a day! He is doing so much better than he was a year ago last spring!! What a change. He even has a car and is driving himself every where he wants. Sunday after church we stopped at Wendy's with my sister's grand daughter and her friend.
We were to meet my brother also, but he got his P's and Q's mixed and waited at Arby's. We couldn't imagine where he was and did not find out until later when he got home!! Uh-Oh!!
We can't get him to use a cell phone so there was no way to check on him until he was back home. Next time we will have to be more specific!
Yesterday after returning to our little home in the country, we decided to check at a couple lumber companies here locally to see is we could find the cabinet that we want in our dining area for a desk that we want to build. After being disappointed with that, we decided to race the rain clouds home. However, on the way we spotted a familiar home near Canfield and decided to stop and say "Hello" to old friends, Eb and Ruth. Ruth had graduated with my sister and we all rode the same school bus as kids. So-o-o-o many years ago! They are doing well and Gary checked out the chickens and turkeys that are being raised there to show at the Canfield Fair. Ruth took a break and sat under the tree to chat for a bit. It was so good to see them.
She has had landscaping done since I was at there home last.
The flowers and patio are beautiful and again makes me miss my flower garden! But not the work! They have enjoyed it very much and are so glad that they had it done! We did beat the rain home, or maybe I should say that we drove home between showers.
Today Gary went early to Lowe's to see what they had in the way of cabinets and finally decided that he will get an assemble yourself unit to save money. He also found a pattern for the desk top that will match our kitchen counter top! So we are happy! He also picked up the lumber to build storage in our bedroom. I think that it is going to blend in well enough that one would think that it was made that way in the beginning! So he has been working himself hard all afternoon. He just told me that I could do the cleaning up! Can you imagine that?? The nerve!
So I will close this session and get back to you again next week. Check in again. Take care and God Bless.

Back at SALEM, OHIO

ON THE ROAD AGAIN AND
THROUGH THE TUNNELS,
we began our last day of travel to reach OHIO!
We decided to leave Virginia about a week earlier than originally planned. So reaching Ohio a week earlier, we decided to have our friendly RV dealer replace the rubber seal around the living room slide and to fix the steps that failed to go out during our last day of travel. Our oldest son was gracious enough to let us bunk out at his house for a week. It was a good visit! And I am sure that the boys had a good break from their own cooking and dish washing. While there we had a "4th family picnic" in his back yard. In spite of the 90 plus degree weather, we enjoyed it very much.
Yesterday we were able to pick up the motor home from the dealer's service department and move in to Timashamie Campground for the duration of the summer. We got our spot at the end of the swimming pool, to which our grandson says, "COOL". Thanks Bob, for making this possible.
All last summer, our grandson lived in the swimming pool most days. And we were able to watch him swim from our computer desk in the front of the motor home, much of the time.
Our pastime, beyond the computer and doing this Blog and our hobbies, is walking the roadways around the lakes. It is a very nice park!!
This is the view as we step out the door of our motor home; the pool, clubhouse and restaurant. Debbie, who runs the restaurant, fed us the first day home after our struggle setting up! Thanks Debbie!!
We have since met up with our friends here at Timashamie, Sandy and Micky as well as Edie and Jerry. It is good to catch up on news!! We had visited Sandy and Micky in Melbourne FL while we were there also.
Last Sunday we attended church with our son at Old North in Canfield. The pastor's wife did a memory recitation of the entire book of James for the service. I was impressed!! She sure made the message come to life!! I am always amazed at anyone with that kind of memory, but the conviction with which she spoke was even more amazing!!
This coming Sunday we look forward to going back to our home church, First Friends in Salem. It will be good to be home and to see so many old friends.
We will keep you posted as we go about our visiting and keeping up with our annual doctor visits. You all take care and I trust that you will have a great summer also.

MARYLAND, PENNSYLVANIA STATELINE AREA

While in Greencastle PA at Keystone RV Dealer for maintenance on our motorhome, we checked out the surrounding communities to while away the time. We had stopped at the shopping areas near Interstate 81 at Hagerstown MD exits. However, we needed to look for other things of interest to do. After all, we don't do much shopping, just looking! Driving in to Hagerstown, we found that they had a walking tour of their downtown area. Checking that out, we stopped in at City Hall, stopped by two churches only to find out that they were not open to tour. The church tours are always such a good source of history for the area. They had so many functions during the formation of the country, especially during the wars. Often they were used to house the soldiers, and even the horses which were so valuable to them. The architecture in the town and their interest portrayed in the Arts was interesting. After walking downtown for a while we drove out to the city park again to tour Hager's Home (Built by the Founder of Hagerstown) only to find that it was not open that day. Such is our luck!! We moved on to the Washington Art Museum at the Park. There we found a lot of interest and noted that they are adding on as well. These are some of the paintings, or parts of paintings that took Gary's eye. We were only permitted to take pictures of the ones that the Museum owned. So just looked at the current displays that were on loan to them.
Gary loved the detail in the lace.
And of course, this is Gary's real interest that he likes to do himself.
The actual front of the Museum has been closed behind the pillars with Plexiglas with this statue in side. Going down the walks from this, we arrived at the man made lake to watch little girl feeding the swans. She was having a ball!
We also took a day to drive to Chambersburg PA and check that out. It is a nice town, but really enjoyed the country side and mountains around it.
And then to see it from this perspective, with the freeway in between us and the farm/mountain scene!!
We spent some time looking for Woodstock Road, but did not find the section that we wanted. I think that the construction of the freeways must have split it up.
We thought this canal on the lower side of Hagerstown was interesting.
These indications of the town's Artistic Performance interest were attractive also! Each was mounted on a post out in the sidewalks.
I thought this clock was interesting, because the working parts were visible from the street.
And buzzing on up the highway, you never know what you will see!! I almost was not fast enough with the camera!!
Leaving Maryland and Pennsylvania behind we arrived back in Salem on Wednesday shortly after lunch. It was not such a long day, but was sure a white knuckle day for Gary because of all of the construction as we got closer to Pittsburgh. But we made it safely and honked on our way in States Street past HS&L. We are back and will see you all soon!!
Not sure how often I will Blog while here as we always manage to keep our calendar so full. Hope to be in the Campground next week though. And I am sure our grandson is looking forward to that also!! Take care and God Bless.
