Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

SILVER REEF near LEEDS, UTAH and ST. GEORGE, UTAH

Rain began Friday evening and did not stop much until Saturday night.  It would have been a good day to stay home, but there was a lecturer at Silver Reef near Leeds, Utah, who we wanted to hear. Silver Reef, of course, was a silver mining town.  Because of the amount of silver taken out of the ground, a Wells Fargo Bank and vault were built to safeguard it.
Wells Fargo Company & Express

We are standing beside a sculpture of a Wells
Fargo Stagecoach and team.
An unbelievable likeness and only for sale at $3500.
The artist lives in the area.

Bill, wanted to show you another flute,
and notice the prickly pear cactus stand.

And another one!

Enter the vault!
Rail cars from the mine.

Pictures probably from 1880, but very little there now,
just history stories and a few stones from foundations.
It was still spitting rain when we left, but since we were so near St. George, we decided to drive on into town for lunch.  In our driving around we saw en ELKS Lodge up on a hill, so we stopped to pick up a pin for Esther's collection.  They had twelve electric RV sites behind the lodge, so we had to check those out also.  We thought the fee a little steep for just electric ($15).
We had noticed this steeple several times when in St. George, so decided to locate it and see if it was the Mormon Temple.  Sure enough it was.  Beautiful building and fence about it.  So stopped to get a couple pictures in the rain.

From there we looked for a Boy Scout yard sale to be held in an ACE Hardware parking lot.  But they must have cancelled because of the rain.  So we went on to a Desert Thrift Store, then on to Texas Roadhouse for lunch.  We certainly ate enough to satisfy us for both lunch and dinner.  We saved the other half for the next day! But it was goo-o-od!
Time to call it a day as our feet were barking!  Will do the next Blog tomorrow of another Canyon.
Stay tuned.
