Our History

Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

GREAT VISITS in INDIANA

After leaving Minnesota, we stopped for a couple days in Indiana to visit some.  Unfortunately we did not have enough time to visit with all relatives there.  We will have to do that another time!!

To park for the few days there we arrived at ELKS GOLF CLUB in northern MARION, INDIANA on Wednesday, May 26th and made plans for visiting the next two days and to take care of business there.

We enjoyed lunch with an RVing friend who we had met in Bushnell,   Florida in 2008.  They had since had to quit traveling because of his   declining health.  To our surprise she had called us to tell us that he had passed away suddenly this past Thanksgiving.  So we felt we needed to visit with Katherine and made this special effort.  On Thursday we had lunch with her at the Fried Egg Restaurant in Wabash, Indiana.  After a lovely lunch she took me for a stop at Walmart across the street to get a few things that I needed.  Then our visit continued in her lovely sunroom watching her many birds that visit her bird feeders.  She followed that with Chocolate Pie before we had to head back to the Golf Club.  Katherine, it was lovely and we look forward to the next time!!

Then Friday we planned the day around surprising and visiting with Audrey's sister who had moved into Assisted Living last summer.
Audrey's sister, Pearl Jean

She was very surprised, and it took her a minute or two to realize who we were as we had not mentioned that we would stop.  We took her out to lunch at Eugeni's Restaurant.  They gave such huge sandwiches that we had to take more then half with us for another meal time!! After that we went on across the county to visit another cousin, Jeanne, and her husband, Norbert. I wanted to reimburse Jeanne for a barrister's bookcase that she bought for me at an Estate Sale in Florida.  She had called me about finding it our first day traveling north for the summer.  We will have to get the bookcase from them our next trip to Florida.

Unknown to us Jeanne had also contacted their daughter, Nicole, and son-in-law, Ron, and another cousin, David, to join us for the visit and for dessert!!  Gary's biggest interest was in seeing Norbert's woodworking shop!!  He does some beautiful carving!! So it was a lovely visit!!

We were pretty well hemmed in at the ELKS.  Just praying that the rain had not caused the ground to be too wet to drive over.  We are pretty heavy so that is always a concern.  But all went well!!

Our six hours on the road Saturday took us all the way to the Church Camp in Berlin Center where we will be for the summer.  We went to our home church, First Friends in Salem on Sunday and then to a Memorial Day picnic at Richard and Lynn's on Monday.  We don't have much more planned yet.  But I can guarantee that the calendar will fill up.  Both of us do have eat-out plans for this evening with each of our friends.  And Gary went for his annual blood test at the VA Clinic this morning.  We try to catch up on all of our medical check-ups while up north. So time marches on!!
