Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

SOME OF GARY'S ART

Here are the pictures that I promised of some of Gary's art - - - - -
Victor getting set up to take the pictures
that Gary needs.  Got to have that lighting
just right!!

These are two oil paintings that Gary did YEARS ago!!  Probably not too long after we married.
And our anniversary this coming October will be 55 years!!

This is from a photo of a great-grand niece
of Audrey's.  She sure took a liking to Gary
a couple years ago.

This is something as seen on TV that Gary would
like to do soon.  It looks tedious!

The rest of these are colored pencil.  I won't bore you with any more at this time, but hope that you enjoy those that you have not already seen.

MORE FUN and SHOWS in OHIO !!

More activities for us!!  Enjoying our time here in Ohio.
Our game playing group here in the NEO Retreat Center where we are parked with the motorhome, invited us to eat with an adult fellowship group from their church in Newton Falls, Wednesday, July 17th.  It was a lively, fun group.  We'll have to share some of the activities with our home church Agape SS Class!!
The ladies first put on a style show!!  To our surprise their husbands were the models!!
Must be bed time!!

I think "she" just needs a little
anatomy addition!!
And a shopping "she" will go!!
The model even made his/her own shoes!!
Our retired preacher friend, Jim!!

I think the painter is too eager
to get at his job!!
Preacher Jim's wife in the
background.

Awesome carry-in table of food!!  We sure were not on a diet that day!!  We'll also have to share some more games!!

Saturday, July 20th, we spent much of our day in Salem for a little time in their Annual Kiwanis Antiques in the Park.  But it sure has changed from when it was ART in the Park years back when Gary showed his art there.  We also went to the United Quilt Show in the gymnasium at First Friends Church.  Now that show was much the opposite in show and attendance!!  It was awesome and I have to share pictures from it!!  This is just a small portion of what was shown there.
I thought this tree with the quilt award pins
on display was a good idea for us TOPS people
with all of our TOPS awards over the years.
It would even work for girl scouts, and such.

The woman showing this had collected all of the Amish
patterns that another woman put on the market in 2018.
This woman traveled all over the country to collect  all
of the original prints.

I was in awe of this!!  It is embroidered with eleven shades
of grey floss in addition to the white..  The whole picture
is solid embroidery.  I can't imagine how many hours went
into this picture!!

Lynn, I thought of you when I saw this placemat!!

This is not a good picture on my part, but Victor, I thought
of you from years back when you expressed an interest
in having a star quilt made.  I got the material,
but never got any further!!  Maybe some day - - -

And I always appreciate patriotic things!!

WOW!
And to think someone might be that thin!!

Best Theme Quilt!!
Very tedious looking blocks.

Very lovely, intricate quilting probably because
it is done my machine!!

Ah-h-h, another patriotic look.

I really can't express all that I felt looking at this display.  I think that I should change from scrapbooking to quilting!!  But even that would be a lot to carry with us!!  Maybe when we settle some day!!
We also stopped at a few garage sales that day.  I saw a love seat and a lawn glider that I wish I had a place and use for them!!  They were in awesome condition and very low price.  Oh well!!

Our son, Richard and his wife are finally getting their pool in.  I can't wait to get in it.  This would have been the perfect HOT day, but they are too busy with other things!!  Maybe next week.

Now it is time for you two to rest!!

One day when we left our park we were greeted by the flock of turkeys crossing the road.  By time I got my phone out, it was almost too late to take the pictures!!  Enlarge them so you can see them better.

Gary spent an evening with Victor taking pictures of his individual drawings and paintings so that he can get some of them entered in an ART Show for next July (2020).  It takes so long to get all lined up for a juried show.  But he is very happy.  I will show you some of his art in my next Blog!!
Hope that you are all enjoying your summer in spite of the humidity!!  Take care and God Bless!!

OHIO - ACTIVITIES with FRIENDS AND FAMILY

We have joined a small group here in the Park to play cards occasionally.  What fun!!
Sandy in SC, we are challenged here also!!  Check out Gary's score.
Five Crowns

Gary's LOW score!!

Thursday, June 14th, we went to Quaker Steak and Lube in Boardman to meet with my cousin and his wife, to eat and also to look over the Car Show there.  It was great to visit with you, Larry and Betty!!
Betty and Larry, great to see you.
Now it is time to get outside to check out
all of the cars being shown off!!
June 16th,  the weekend after Father's Day we celebrated with our family's fathers when Richard was presented with an awesome grill to cook our burgers and dogs on.  Richie, Miranda and Doug you did great on that gift!

Victor, Lynn and Richie doing the assembling.
Gary spent a Friday at Roger's Flea Market with his friend, Rick. Then they stopped at Mark's Landing for lunch.
Ah-ah-ah- no games at the table!!

View of Guilford Lake from Mark's Landing
I went with a few of my TOPS friends to see the movie POMS in Boardman and to a new restaurant, Corelife, afterward.  It was a great evening, the movie was hilarious and the food great and interesting!!
We also had the annual TOPS picnic at Berlin Lake at the cottage of one of the members.  They enjoyed games after the delicious salads.  The salads sure took preference over my veggie tray.  I had to make and freeze soup later in the week to use up all of the left over veggies!
Nancy with hostess, Barb

Sarah and Janet waiting for the games to begin.
Ellie's waiting too!

Debbie joins the wait!

Let the games begin!!
Thanks Barb for a fun evening.  The STORM was not a problem with your new add-on room!!
Great ambiance!!
It seems that I have had more outings than Gary!!  I had dinner at Hartville with my friend, Louise,
Thursday, June 27th.  On the way to meet Louise, I stopped by the cemetery where a brother of mine and my parents and grandmother are buried.  I'm glad that I made the stop.

Then Gary and I went to my class of '62 luncheon at Adele's on Thursday, June 27th.
Dalbert, Clyde and Cheryl, John

It was great to visit. It hardly seems that it has been a year, but it has.  And great to share stories and ideas with new RVers, Ted and Margie.   The difference from our style is that they have more home locations about this part of the country to stop at.

My old Bible Study group had a birthday lunch at Annabell's and what a great visit!  A great visit with owner, Susie, too.
I also had a Retiree's Lunch at Canfield Catering to catch up with old friends!! I sure do not enjoy going into the bank's branches though as most everyone is gone from there! No familiar faces in Salem, for sure!!
Gary took me with him over to New Brighton, PA to check out Merrick's Art Gallary.  He had a good welcome there and may be showing there next summer!!  He was pleased!!
Gary also went with friends, Tom and Rick to Geneva area to check out the Antiques and have lunch.  It was a great day for him. And he has been hitting the yard sales to find frames for his art work.  He needs to get the finished pieces matted and framed.
On our way back from New Brighton, we stopped in at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center to see our RVing friends, Don and Lois.  It was a good visit with Don and yet so sad to see Lois's condition. We never know what life holds for any of us.  Don drives over there every day to spend his time with Lois as it is only a few miles from home.
Gary got a call from his former co-worker, Jim, asking that we come to Guilford Lake to check out his and wife, Lena's, summer location.  So on July 5th, we had a great visit and they have a lovely location. The community there is very close and cozy with many neighbors.
Lena, Gary and Jim

Gary and Jim were talking as fast as Lena and I !!
We did have a lovely/lively visit.  Don't think there was any time wasted!!

Monday, July 8th, our friends, Richard and Linda, from Newberg, Oregon stopped by as they continued on west.  They had been to Philadelphia to spend time with their daughter and grand-daughter. They are both now retired and using their trailer for some fun, though they found a trip clear across the country to be quite taxing. Richard was a former pastor at First Friends here in Salem. It was great to see them and to catch up on news.

Had to show a close-up for our
friends you know you!!
Gary has also had plenty of time for some Car Shows, though some of the ones that he was looking forward to were not as great as he expected.

Last weekend Richie and Miranda, the grands, had a surprise party for our daughter-in-law's 50th!!

How many of these can you relate to??
It was fun and great to see her sisters again.  He mother is doing well and hoping to move back to her home soon.
Beth, Savannah, Lynn, Miranda and Barb.

Barb, mother, Angie and Beth

The guys move on to the TV, as usual.
But it is only an archway away.

Tyler, you are looking good, and you too Greg!!

What an awesome birthday cheesecake!!
It sure disappeared quick!!

Yes, Charlie, you are pretty too!!
Gary and I spent some time at our Condo this past weekend while Victor was away for a gaming convention.  When there Gary got art sorted out and matted, while I cleaned the balcony glass doors!! Wonder if Victor will notice when he gets back!
That is about all that I have to share, so will sign off for now.  In a couple weeks we will be headed to Minnesota to see Ben and stop in Indiana on our way back to see my two remaining siblings.  It is time to check in with them.
You all take care and enjoy your summer now that it seems to be drying out some.  The weather has sure been wet and different for this far into the summer.
Love to you all, and take care!!
