Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

NOVEMBER & DECEMBER in OHIO

November has been pretty uneventful except for doctor appointments and a few visits with close friends and family here.  The results with the doctors were very good.  I am very thankful that surgery was easy and no radiation or chemo treatments needed. PTL!!
We got our oldest son to assist in purchasing a new laptop and getting it all switched over!! That is a praise in itself.
I went to the Home Savings Retiree luncheon and Gary has been to his Retiree luncheons with his SES friends.  Gary also did the usual Honda oil change in Akron.  And we have also attended our Class luncheons for '62 and '63.
Class'  '63 - Louis, Lynn and Maria, the first week of
November at (B B Rooner's which is under new ownership).

Elaine does a great job keeping the group together
and informed.

Rudy and Gary
Not sure who is entertaining who!

I am going to put some names with this picture, and
hope that I am correct.  Tom, Jim, Polly, Donna and Fred,
Connie and her husband.
We got together again the first of December but changed location to Adele's.  I did not realize that
Adele's have a separate room, but it was nice and we were well taken care of.
Seems all we do is eat though!!  That must change soon!!
Our Salem friends, Bill and Esther, finally got moved to their double-wide that they purchased earlier in the year in Punta Gorda, FL.  They seem to be settling in very well.  We are envious, just a little!!
I have our Christmas cards sent out and our Christmas emails out.  Today was the last of my gift wrapping. So I am very relaxed.
We missed our grandson's girlfriend's baptism this past Sunday.  Everyone seemed to forget passing the event's plans on to us.  So yesterday I went to Lion and Lamb Store in Salem for a gift remembrance from us.  The important thing was that Savannah's mother attended and our grandson's sister, Miranda, also attended.
All we have left to do is a few Christmas events with friends and family, and our close friend visits.
We have a Christmas gathering here in the Condo Thursday and we look forward to that so we can meet more of our neighbors.  I think that we have had more moving in during the past year.  I will make Veggie Pizza for that and peanut butter, chocolate squares for Christmas day.  No excessive cookie baking this year!!  I'll leave the cookie baking to Savannah. She loves that. We all need diets!!  Though Gary has been doing well with his.
A couple residents on our floor took it upon themselves to plan our event and to decorate the ends of our hall and the main lobby in the building.  It looks great and I always like this time of year decorations!!

Time to rest??
We do have a lovely lobby!!
This is one view from our balcony as they prepare
the walkway to the car-ports to be closed off from
the wind and snow!! They do take good care of us.
The pool is covered also and that is another view from our balcony.  But we will be glad to leave Victor to enjoy the condo during the rest of this cold season!!
I may have a few pictures from the balance of our stay here, especially Christmas. But we are glad to be moving south after that.  Then it will be time to order our hard bound book of the Blogs for 2018.
Have a very Joyous Christmas season celebrating the Lord's Birth, and a Healthy, Happy New Year!!

CHANGES IN OUR SCHEDULE FOR THE FIRST PART OF WINTER!!

Another three weeks have gone by and Gary has been busy keeping our reservation plans changed.
We spent ten days taking the motor home south to Pensacola area for storage as the COLD weather approaches!! In that ten days we spent five of those in Florence, Alabama visiting with Gary's nephew, Michael and his wife, Cindy.
Michael and Cindy  -Archive picture.
Had some great visit time and took care of an eye problem for Audrey at Michael's eye doctor. We also had a problem with the electric pigtail that connects the motorhome to the car when we tow it. so ran over all creation until we found a replacement on the south side of Louisville.
Since returning to Ohio, Audrey finally had her D & C results explained today by her doctor. So now we are resigned to another month extension to our stay here in Ohio at the condo. We await a phone call to get more surgery scheduled. Always something new.
I asked if this was caused from the cancer that was removed in '09 and'13 and the doctor said no, but it was caused by the Tamoxifen that they prescribed for the five years following my second cancer. So one never knows if taking a prescription is the right thing to do or not!!!
The best of this is only that we will be with our kids here in Ohio for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. So we do look forward to that. But I do not think that I will do any Christmas shopping. Just too lazy for that!! We do have one surprise for them at least, when it gets here from the mail service.
Before we took the motor home south, I planned a get together of former employees from the Home Savings Salem Branch at Mike's Penn Grill. I sure did not get pictures of everyone, but I am showing you what we did get.
Debbie C, Joyce, the clown, and Brenda

Gary joined us since we only have one car and he had to be in
Salem for an appointment anyway.
Norma, Mike and his wife, Katy
Debra and Sheryl
Sheryl brought us up to date, telling us that
it has been 32 years since she resigned!!

Brenda, Debra and Debbie M.O.
No pictures of Janet or me.  Oh well!! We had a great visit and hope to get more to attend the next time. I keep trying to update my list of phone numbers and email addresses. But it's difficult to keep ahead of that!!
On our stay in Florence, Alabama we stayed in a park along a river which was very nice.

And we went to Red Lobster for our 54th anniversary.
We also did some of our antique shop tours and I got a Depression Glass blue relish dish for our anniversary.  I got him to knock off a few dollars as well. My new curio cabinet in the condo is now as full as I'll ever want it!!

Our trip back north - guess we are getting ready to travel through Nashville!!
When we got home, we had a phone call from Audrey's nephew letting us know that her brother is not very well and has been in the hospital since.  I feel so bad for his boys who are carrying the brunt of this.  If I were closer, I would help them, but I don't think that will happen.
You all stay warm now and have fun preparing for the holidays!!

AN UPDATE FROM OHIO

This past week has brought some news that may cause some change in plans. We are taking one week at a time!! This coming week will bring outpatient surgery for Audrey. Then until we get the pathology reports, we will not know what follows. I asked the doctor if this has any relation to the former cancer that was removed. She said no, but it could be related to the Tamoxifin that I took for five years after that surgery. Go figure!!!  Makes me wonder why we take any meds???? Please pray for us.
We have made tentative plans to take the motor home to the Florida panhandle for winter storage until we are sure we can leave Ohio for the winter.  Our previous plans to go to South Carolina for a month have been postponed for another time.  We will certainly miss seeing our friends there, Sandy and Mike!!!
But as our RVing friends, Bob and Donna say, Our plans are made in Jello for a reason - they can easily be changed.
We are still at the Campground, but will go to the condo in with our oldest son after we take the motorhome south. I am sure the water and electric will be shot off here at the campground soon. It is definitely getting colder here. I dug out my winter slippers this morning!!
After scrapbooking yesterday with my friends in Salem, I decided that I need to keep this busy work handy for the next few weeks.  I may sit down to work on it yet today, especially when Gary turns the TV on in the living area. He is now working on his drawings in the back room work area.
We will continue our visits with friends and relatives while here.
Our last visit was with Audrey's cousins, Betty and Larry who we met with at Bob Evans near Eastwood Mall. However, we forgot to take pictures that evening and Larry was in so much pain with his back that we did not make it a long visit.
Our other visit was with the Ross's, cousins from the east Cleveland area who we met up with at a restaurant in Middlefield/Burton area. What great visits!! Everything from computers, sewing and politics.
The Ross's, Bill, Tom, Judy and Barb,
with Gary, Victor and Audrey
Before our cold snap we did have a few fun sunsets and sunrises. Love to share those.

Tomorrow will be our grandson, Richard's 21st birthday.  We look forward to that time of fun and feast! His choice of restaurant was Longhorn. And next Saturday will be the annual Boy Scout spaghetti dinner at the United Methodist Church in Salem.
In the mean time, Gary and I continue our eating out and running with our closest friends.
Stay tuned and we will update you in a week or so. Have a great day!!

OREGON FRIENDS VISIT OHIO, and BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Another week has gone by. And our Oregon friends, Tim and Judy, left our park this morning for southern Ohio as they progress toward their home it Oregon. They wanted to see Noah's Ark and the New Creation Museum.
Judy and Tim, Oregon friends

We first met them at their church in 2011 and have since connected a couple times in Mesa, AZ and again in North Carolina at their friend's a couple years later, and now this visit in Ohio.
Judy, Gary and Tim visit in our motorhome.

We took them to Stage Coach Inn for fish dinner, which was delicious, as usual. Then she fixed us dinner in their home on wheels after church on Sunday. It was nice to share our church time with them after five months in their home church in Sandy, Oregon years back.
It was great to share time with them and introduce them to some of our family here in Ohio for birthday celebrations.

I found Richard,s collection of photo albums at our condo,
so I had Victor bring them to the rightful owner!
Now it is share time of the many hours of work to put
together the many years of Richard;s memories.

OK, put on your appetites.
Glad that you got your DQ cake, Savannah!!
Ben, remember this stairway?
I couldn't resist this opportunity for a
picture memory.

We are now back to our routine, Gary will spend the day today by himself here in the motorhome, while I go to Bible Study and TOPS in Salem. Not sure how late I will be as I sure won't stay after dark if it begins to rain (which is forecast).
Tomorrow Gary will go to Alliance for the SES retirees luncheon and Wednesday will probably be laundry day in the condo.
We still have a variety of doctor and dentist appointments before we head south. Hope to get all taken care of without delaying our leaving this snow and cold area. It is beginning to turn pretty cool, though we hope for some hot days yet.
You all enjoy the fall weather and color as I do see the changes beginning. Take care!!

WEDDING TIME AGAIN !!

September 15, 2018 --- Time to dress up and take in a very important wedding to us!! Our step grand-daughter finally took the big step!!
Chapel in Boardman Park,
lovely place!!
Rich and Lynn relaxing while waiting for dinner.

Time for us to relax and share time with them.
The photographer asked that all cameras and cell phones be turned off at the chapel to avoid any interference. So we did not get pictures at the church, not until the reception on our phones or cameras.
