Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

TRIP TO SALIDA, COLORADO to meet a SECOND COUSIN

Another day, another trip.  We really need a day off, but time is running out here!!

Wednesday, July 15th we drove southwest to Salida, Colorado to meet Gary's second cousin.
Gary and second cousin, John
Gary had not met him before, but he has visited with his mother in NM to share family histories and pictures.   He and Mildred set up computers side by side and worked while I read or took pictures.

We knew that it was a long drive and had heard that it was beautiful.  And it was, but a very winding road.  We enjoyed it, but opted to come back another route that John recommended which was more four lane.
We did not realize that much of the trip over was along the Arkansas River.  They sure use this area for rafting and kayaking.

Looks like fun!!

These mountains almost look like pyramids.

After visiting a while and learning what John does for employment from his computers at home, we went out to lunch along the river at the Salida Cafe'.  He makes maps for an energy company in another state. Wouldn't you love to just go into another room in your house to work each day?  But they do send him on trips from time to time. Sounds like a great job to us. I think Gary would love it!
The Arkansas River at the end of his street.
It is a tourist town, for sure!

This fellow came in before rain -
just in time!

We began at the table outside of the tent
with black clouds overhead.
Sure enough, they opened up and we had to move in a hurry!
Rain and even a little hail, but it stopped before
we had to walk back to the car.
The town was quite old with history, but full of tourists as well.

Built in 1886

It was now time to hit the road to drive back to home in Monument, CO and let John get back to work. John it was a great visit and maybe we can do this again.
Scenery on the trip back was good, but we did run into some heavy rain.  G home safe and sound!

Tomorrow will be a day at home to get laundry done and Gary wants to get the compressor out and make sure the tires are all equal and not too much pressure before we move on Saturday.
Take care.
