Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

CHEYENNE WYOMING TROLLEY TOUR

One Block from the Union Pacific RR Station was the Infamous US 30/ Lincoln Highway.  Gary got our tickets for the city tour by Trolley.  We are doing to tour first and then will go back out and take more pictures.  It is not easy to take pictures from inside the Trolley.

About the Lincoln Highway
Note the last paragraph about the Boy Scouts
project to mark it.
Our trolley and our narrator.

Gary waiting for the tour to begin.

When this housed a bar on the first floor
and a brothel on the second floor
many entered in through the tunnel
going under the street to be incognito!
It is also said that Teddy Roosevelt
would ride his horse through the
front doors straight up to the bar.

Some of the first brick buildings built to
replace the wood structures burned in a fire
that destroyed this area of town.

Interesting, but not as old as the others.

The Governor's Mansion

Bill W. - Gary checked it out!

Oldest school house in Wyoming that is still standing.

Students tour this house many times,
and they refer to it as the pencil house.
Wonder why?

Interesting mansion.

The Capitol Building

Young bull rider who died after
one of his wins!  The bull's horn punctured
his heart as it turn after he was on the
ground.

This is the sculpture that was copied on the
Wyoming license plate.

After our tour, we drove and took the pictures of the train that she had pointed out.  Next we parked to find a restaurant for lunch.  Low and behold we saw that we could also have taken a carriage ride, but do not think that it was as lengthy a tour.

We found Sanford's Grub and Pub and decided to try it out.  The truck fascinated Gary!  The decor and food very interesting and good.  Of course, plenty for left overs at home!

Get busy and order, Gary!
After lunch we went back to the statures to get better pictures and decided to go through the Frontier Days Museum.  They have been holding this in July for 116 years.  I guess it is quite an event and affects the whole town.  It doesn't begin until the 20th and we will be long gone.  They are in the process of setting up the large local artist art displays.  Gary got enough of a peek to take these pictures.  Hope they don't come after him.  Ha-ha!  They way that there will be over a million dollars of art work on display.

Impressive work!
I wouldn't mind being here to attend the rodeos.  Maybe next time.
The many carriages in the museum will be taken out and used in the Frontier Days Parades.

Past Frontier Day items were on display as well as videos to watch.

Other frontier memorabilia also.

Another successful tour and so glad that we took it.
We will do another one in Denver Colorado on Monday.
We also have some visiting to do in the area. So stay tuned.
Today has been a relax day after driving for two and a half hours and setting up home.  I will show you pictures of the park in the next Blog.
We did meet a very nice couple, Tony and Darlene, who are from Loveland CO and use this park for a get away and have done so for sixteen years.  Hopefully, we will get to spend a little more time with them.
