Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

NAVAL AIR MUSEUM AND FORT BARRANCAS in PENSACOLA FLORIDA

Our month here in Pensacola Florida has gone by quickly with lunch and dinner outings with friends here and with doctor, dentist and eye appointments.  All is well on that front.
We have had a lot of heat until this past weekend, with this Monday being awesome!!
Crossing the Bay to go to Holt and Crestview FL
Gary got up on the roof again and got his roof vent covers installed.  He has wanted them for quite some time, so time was well spent.
I finally got an e-mail from a Salem friend who now lives in southern Alabama.  So we are connecting with her this week for a lunch out and much visiting!!  I am happy now that we have made all connections as we had hoped for.  We are ready to move on next Monday after the motor home has it's tune-up and oil change before leaving it here in storage.
Our first Sunday dinner at Texas Roadhouse after church was with some of the friends from our class.
Henrietta, Joann, Lana, Howard, Dennis and Bob,
with Audrey and Gary missing from picture.

Then our second Sunday out to Ruby Tuesdays had a couple changes in diners--
Gary, Bob, Dennis, David, Emily, Joann and Henrietta.
We so enjoy these outings!!  And Pearl, I would imagine that you remember these people except, Bob and Henrietta who are new to the class within the last year. They all ask how you are doing.

Tuesday, September 15th, dawned sun shining and remained that way until evening.  We were fortunate, because this is the only day that we had planned to do some sight seeing since we arrived in Pensacola.  We planned to go to the beach and to the Naval Museum again.  In addition, we went to Fort Barrancas on the Naval Base and saw some of the Blue Angel Air Show from a distance when at the museum and the fort.  So we felt that we had a wonderful day even though we never got to the beach!!
I went out the back door of the first museum
and happened upon this.  Just had to snap the camera.
Gary's purpose in going back to the Naval Museum was to see the display about the Vietnam family who were rescued when trying to escape Vietnam at the very end of the war when everyone were trying to get out.  Gary had seen a documentary on TV about it and so he wanted to see the plane.

Since we have been to the museum a couple times before, we did not take many pictures this time. I did focus on the plane that was the first to fly across the Atlantic before the Wright Brothers.

We hear about the Wright Brothers all of the time, but seldom about others whose history predates World War II.
When leaving the museum we saw the Blue Angels overhead breaking the sound barrier at times. So I had to stop and take pictures.

We started to drive out of the Navy Base and passed Fort Barrancas which has been restored and is open to the publish. So we turned around and went back to see it.

It is very well kept and many tunnels and rooms beneath ground which Gary went through. They figure that the bay opening has changed by a mile over the 180 years through erosion, etc.
While I climbed to the top wall facing out to the bay, I kept seeing the Blue Angels overhead.  I just had to focus in on them.
View from the Fort Wall.

Now it is time for lunch so went to one of our favorite places for good fish.

Fish and chips was great and more than enough for one meal, so took half home.  On the way home Gary stopped in at the garage where he will take the motor home for the oil change on Monday before it goes into storage mode for the next three months.  He wanted to make sure of the plans and find out where they wanted him to park it.
We also stopped in at the Loaves and Fishes Thrift Store.  I always like to look!!  I did find five more books for 50 cents each and a new bath towel.  Thought that was a good enough find.  A good finish to the day.
