Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

A WEEK IN PENSACOLA FLORIDA

Gary has put more work time in here at home!!  Cleaned the roof, put new caulking around everything up there and then installed two new vent covers.  Now he just has the covers for open vents to install.  He has also been busy inside here cleaning out a lot of his STUFF, making a storable table for between the driver's and passenger's seats and fixing latches on drawers in the kitchen. Sounds like the whip has been cracked, but not really. We are both famous for thinking of new things to do.
Our Honda has been in the garage having work done to repair the damage done by the tow bar when it snapped.  So we are sitting here with a Ford Focus to keep us going.  But it is not an easy car to drive, which they say is because of the double clutch.  Sounds strange to me since it is an automatic!! Our car should be finished this afternoon, or as soon as they receive the new bumper.

Yesterday we drove about a mile to catch a bus to Biloxi MS to go to the Golden Nugget.
Driving through Mobile, home of the USS Alabama.
We killed a day for sure, as was a long ride.  The bus cost us $10 each, but then they gave us $15 each to play slots. And tight wads that we are, we made out okay by coming home with $15. It just cost us our dinner at their buffet and of course, that was way more than we needed to eat.  Will have to do without for a week to make up for it!!

Last week we had driven north to Atmore AL to Windcreek Casino to be disappointed that they have removed all of their penny slot machines!! So we won't be going there again. That had always been our favorite, but no more.  We stopped at a couple thrift shops on the way back and a roadside produce market.  That was the highlight of our day.

Sunday, we spent a couple hours with friends Mikki and William.

Mikki was a neighbor of my brother, Claude.  We love going there for dinner as she does a good job of introducing us to Japanese cuisine.  I forgot to take our photo albums with us, so have to go back, and to take her some plastic to make a shield for her GPS for their Blue Ridge Parkway trip soon. Thanks Mikki for a wonderful time!!
We have also been to our favorite book store and will make one more trip back, to take books that we have finished, to trade in on others.  We tend to keep too many on hand, but will need to take our supply to Ohio for the fall.  We have other things to keep us busy, but I always need reading to do in the evening.
Gary's eye appointment is finished and he was glad not to need to spend money on new glasses at this time.  Now I need to take care of dentist next week and we both will see our doctor here.  We also have plans to meet up with friends for lunch and dinner before our month here is over.  So we will keep busy.  Gary just went to Lowe's and I sent him with a small list for groceries at Walmart.  He just loved that!!  Haha.

A lot of water along I-10 --

And a lot of sugar cane growing!!

SHARING WITH YOU:

We also received pictures from the kids who just vacationed at Outer Banks, NC.  It looks like they had a good time!!  I wanted to download some other pictures from their FB page, but I forgot how I did it before!!  It is the only way that I get pictures to put in our Grandson's photo album.
Richard, Miranda, Lynn and Rich.
Does he look like a farmer, or what?
Lynn also sent his first day of school picture for his senior year.  I thought I would share it for those of you who know him.
Where did the time go??  It sure flies when having fun.  I am sure that he will be glad when this year is over, but little does he know that the worries have just begun!!  Not sure what direction that he will take, but know that he has some interests.  Little does he know, that things often take different turns.  We sure pray for him and his future.

That is about all that we have to share at this time.  Hope to have some more pictures for the next Blog.  Take care and hope that your fall season is going well.

DONNA and BOB:  I wanted to share with you about my cousin who has been turned on to geo-caching.  They recently returned from a trip to South Africa and she found two there!!  She has also found a couple near Bluffton IN near where they live.
