Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

BRANSON, MISSOURI SHOWS PLUS!

We arrived at Treasure Lake RV Resort in Branson on Monday, August 3rd.  Very hot when we got here, but the rains came in Tuesday and Wednesday.  So it cooled off for a couple days, but they are promising 90's by the weekend again.

I sure do not remember the heavy traffic last September when we were here for a day!!  I am learning to ride with my eyes closed!!  I hate the steep hills with a traffic light just over the top!!

I have not been taking pictures of the theaters and businesses as I did last September. No point in duplicating.  This time we are taking in some shows. There is also a car show and parade here on Saturday, it may begin on Friday from the activity we are seeing.  Gary will want to see some of this. We got a new neighbor today who has a '64 or '65 red Mustang with all white interior.  What a beauty and it is for sale!!

There is a gentleman at the Senior Center who drives a yellow 2003 Mustang convertible.  He told the story of his grandson who fell in love at first sight with this convertible, asking that Grandpa give it too him.  I told him that I would have laughed and told him when I am gone maybe.  Yes, he came back home from Nebraska and put it in his will.  Great Grandpa I would say!!

We love the Senior dinners @ $3.50 each.  We had Baked Fried Chicken (delicious and moist) with tasty scalloped potatoes on Tuesday and then Chicken Alfredo with all the trimmings Thursday. They also had Peach Cobbler today and one of the patrons went out and got ice cream to go with it. He said it wouldn't be right not to have ice cream with cobler!!  We sure like the Senior Center dinners that we have had in Utah and here in Missouri. And you can't beat the price.  It sure beats cooking at home too.

August 5th, Wednesday we went to a show,  #1 Hits of the 60's, and 50's too, at the Americana Theatre. Once we found the theater, we were in business and only five minutes late.  The GPS sure did not know where it was located.  The people at the theater talked us though the problem. It was a very good show with many, many songs that we remember.  They did not sing them in their entirety, but sang them more as a medley.  They sure changed costumes a lot also.

This fellow did those high voiced numbers, remember them?

Lead singer, wife of the producer.
Producer, singer and keyboard player.
It was a great show and we looked forward to our reservations for Thursday!!  Thursday's show at the Hamner's Theater was Patsy Cline "Remembered" by C.J. Newsom and her award winning band, the Re-Cliners.  They did a journey through Patsy's life, including the stories behind the songs from the stars who influenced Patsy, as well as, those who were influenced by Patsy. The gal did not look anything like Patsy, but she sure did an excellent job and is even prettier.  She included Patsy Montana's "I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart", even the yodeling!! Remember that one?
She began with the cowgirl look as that is what Patsy thought the country singer should be.

She did her tribute to Veterans.

This guitarist sang several numbers and we were sitting
not far behind his sister, who was so proud of him.
She and her friend were attending two and three shows
a day.  Now I call that "taking it all in".

C.J.'s husband Chris gives her a "hand" on stage
after C.J. brought a fellow out of the audience so
she could sing to him.  He is waiving to his wife and
oblivious to the third party in the act.  It was quite funny.
Chris is the producer of the show.

The Re-Cliners were an important part of the show, as well!!  We look forward to seeing the keyboard player again in our Saturday show. He will be taking the part of Jerry Lee Lewis in that program. Each member of the band were from different states.
David Brooks, who does the Jerry Lee Lewis part
in The Million Dollar Quartet Show..
He was very talented!!
When we came back into our park, we had the opportunity to take a picture of a tree trunk carving that we had noticed and knew that some of you would appreciate it.

Then before arriving "home", we saw this turkey getting an early dinner. I thought it had beautiful coloring.

Stay tuned and we will bring you our last show here in Branson.
NOT!!  It turned out that we were not permitted to take pictures in the show "Million Dollar Quartet" It was a musical skit based on this picture taken in 1956 at Sun Records.

I did take a picture of the screen message shown before the show, which said:
"On December 4, 1956 one man brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis,
Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley to play together for the first and only time.
His name was Sam Phillips...  The place was Sun Records...
That night they made rock 'n' roll history!!"
