Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

MOVIN' ON to OREGON

I had to take one last picture of Park Sierra as we left on May 5th! It is so pretty there! There is much agriculture in northern California. Grapes, nuts, fruits and vegetables, even rice!! I guess that they flood the rice fields in April and May right after seeding them from airplanes. New to us!! I always pictured people walking through them to plant. Modern technology! I did drive for an hour or two the first day out. I told Gary that I almost forgot how!! I like to keep in practice just in case it would ever be necessary for me to do it all. Our first night stop was at Walmart in Redding CA. The scenery there from our front window view, was interesting to say the least. We were kind of glad when he drove away after a couple hours. I guess he just wanted to pan handle!! The scenery along the highways was beautiful as usual. We were headed higher into the Cascade Mountain Ranges so we were not sure what kind of roads that we would have to deal with. However, it was very nice and easy to travel, though winding. We were so thankful and I spent the time taking pictures of the specific mountains and looking at maps to determine which peaks we were passing. Kept me busy enough for the trip!!

I am not sure which is which now, as I always take so many pictures and then delete the ones that are not as good. I can tell you that one was Mt. Shasta at 14,162 ft. elevation. Another was Lassen Volcano Peek at 10,457 ft and Mt. Hilton at 8,964 ft. I was glad not to be driving this day because of the elevations as Gary always uses the engine brake then. So I left the driving to him!!
Note our gas prices!! Not good.
Now we are headed into the High Desert in south-central Oregon. Much different and different colors.
Hope at last!! We did arrive about noon as we had started out a 5:45 am. We beat the traffic!!
This is a small nice level campground. Nice and neat. We will be here for a week before moving on to Mt. Hood area in north Oregon. There are some things to see is this area of Oregon, as well, if the roads are not closed yet from winter. We'll see.
Take care!

Just beautiful pictures Audrey and Gary and your commentary is so wonderful, it is just like being there (well, almost)! The snow was beautiful but we don't want to see any more of that for a while. We are trying to get winter over with in Ohio and it doesn't want to leave. Thanks for sharing with us. Barbara Smith
