Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

FIRST DAYS AT OUR NEW LOCATION IN OREGON

Arrived at noon May 6th at Cascade Meadow RV Resort north of LaPine OR, with plenty to time to get settled in for the week. We drove north to Bend on Saturday to check out a church location for Sunday, and stopped in at the High Desert Museum on the way back. It was interesting history with anything from the Indians of the area to the early settlers from the east to the Volcano history of this area. Included in the museum were animals native to the area, musicians playing folk music, an old fire truck, and a slice of a giant sequoia where fire had burned out half of the trunk. Awesome!! On Sunday we left church with a surprise of Sleet!!
Unfortunately for us, the elevation is high enough to give us a variety of weather. On Monday we woke to a covering of snow on the ground
and a frozen water hose outside!! Ugh!! In spite of the sleet on Sunday, we went on to dinner at Izzy's Grill buffet even though it was the wrong thing to do on a diet. Tasted good though!! When we left there it was dry, so we drove around town and ended up taking a side tour up Point Butte which overlooks Bend. The surrounding mountains are in easy view from there also. It was pretty and I would like to go back and see it on a sunny day!!
On Monday we drove the other direction into LaPine to drop a priority envelope in the mail. While there we checked out a shop that boasted Quilts and Art Gallery of local art. It was quite interesting and I can see that when I get into quilting, which is my plan after completing the scrapbooking, I will again get into plenty of cost!! But fun!! Not too much in local art, but plenty of fabric and all that goes with it.
We went from the shop into the Red Rooster Coffee House and Cafe' for lunch. I thought it was a great idea to have the Cafe' attached to the shop when they have so many sewing classes. A good place to break for lunch. Now why would I always be thinking of eating??
The Cafe' was cute and very good food, breakfast and lunch. While sitting there eating, I could watch what was going on in the store.
Going back home after lunch, we went on west from the campground to check out the East Lakes and Paulina Mountain. Surprise!! The snow accumulation from past snows caused the road to still be closed to through traffic.
So we only got to the parking lot for the winter sports people, and turned around there to go home. We decided to call it a day.
Tomorrow will be our trip to Crater Lake as it is promising nice weather. The south Rim is all that is open yet, so it will be a longer trip to get there but hopefully worth the extra drive.
Take care. We see that your temps are in the 70's. Better than ours!!
