Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

HOME in CANNON FALLS, MN and TOUR OF THE TWIN CITIES

Seems like old home week at Timashamie in Ohio!

Our first view, but we are located now way back
beyond the swimming pool.
Even the hay rides!
And the shade trees cut the need for
putting our awning out.

Our neighbor for this weekend.
Following our trip to Red Wing, MN we did a drive about our town, Cannon Falls, on a couple different days! Amazing what you find off the main track! Our first two finds were Antique Shops. Hard to believe that this small town can support this size of shop.  We were intrigued to see so many antique items that we had never seen before!!  It must be because this area of earlier settlers was mostly from Sweden,  Norway, Finland, and later Germany.

I have been looking for this on a stem, not with
a cup handle, for quite some time.
I broke one much earlier in our marriage that
had been my father's. I would love to replace it.

Rich T, - I thought of you when I
saw this Mickey phone!

In our second shop I found a glass bowl that I had to have for decorating back in the Condo. And then the shop owner had to run the puppet show for us! I would love this in a family room of a large Victorian home!

We also made a stop at a Scrapbooking store. I usually don't stop at those as I do not need to add to my store of supplies in the motorhome! But did this day and was bitten by the bug to make cards!  My friends back in Ohio have tried to encourage me in this vein before. But I have abstained so that I wouldn't have to store the materials or cards!?!

I was not able to buy all of the punches used here, but realized that I do not remember what I have stored in the condo either. So I can add later. Now I just have to get busy and use them.
Gary has taken over the table for his genealogy for now. He is trying to get copies made for the distant cousin whom we met for the first time in Iowa. This is history on his father's side of the family from West Virginia.
Victor has since arrived for a week stay with Ben. They had interests of their own and took off into Minneapolis for a trip to a Game Store. While they did that, we took a Bus Tour that they were not interested in. We saw many points of interest that we would like to go back and check out later.
Our first stop was at Minnehaha Falls.
Statue of Hiawatha

with views of the locks on the Minnehaha Creek that empties into the Mississippi River.
More sites about the twin cities, including some flour mills still in operation today, the homes of Legends, including F Scott Fitzgerald, Sinclair Lewis, Governors past and present and Mary Tyler Moore on Summit Avenue, Calhoun Lake, the many parks ( of which they boast one in every neighborhood) Theaters old and new, the State Capitol, many famous churches with beautiful spires, US Bank Stadium, Fort Snelling as seen from a distance, Stone Arch Bridge and Calhoun Cemetery where Hubert Humphrey and his wife, Tiny Tim and many other well knowns are buried.

At one time in history there had been five hundred grain mills!!  The Railroad baron encouraged the farmers to raise grain that he would transport for them to the mills that would make them all rich. And it did!! There was one mill in past history that had explosions from the friction of the grain dust on the floors, killing thirteen.

Stone Arch Bridge
(just one section)

The largest hotel in the city with more
than 700 rooms.
US Bank Stadium which boasts awesome scenes
from all four directions.

Downtown boasts sites of many movie scenes, including this diner used in Disney films, still located on a street in downtown.
Taking the picture through the window glare
did not help the picture any!

A music store - When the painting was finished they placed
a grand piano in the parking lot and entertained
using this music!
Just a touch of the city sites!  It was a very nice tour and the narrator was very informative. She kept a running banter of information to our last stop!! The young appeared bored, but they did not even know the music artists or their music!! Such a shame.
We have seen some documentaries on PBS since here from the 50's and 60's that sure brings back the memories!! This sure has been historic visiting for us.
