Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

DAY in RED WING, MINNESOTA

GOING IN SEARCH OF WALMART.
We have to get my scripts at Walmart and I have one due in a week. Since there was not any Walmart here in Cannon Falls, we went up highway 19 to Red Wing MN. We also found the only grocery store here in Cannon Falls to be somewhat steep in price, so felt Walmart was worth the run.
On the other hand we found many things in Red Wing, including Mayo Clinic, Red Wing Shoe Mfg, and Red Wing Pottery Mfg. and a Memorial Park on top of a mountain foothill looking out over the town. The park was the site of former quarries of past history. We plan to go back and spend a day there, maybe next week. We have to find things to do when Ben works (which he does Monday and Tuesday nights before a week off. After getting some literature on things of interest, we need to plan an itinerary for time with Ben and Vic when he gets here also.
RR Depot, now visitor center
with an Art Gallery also.

Art Gallery section where Gary found the lady working
 to be most helpful.
She lives in Minneapolis but works in Red Wing.
She sent us to see the Memorial Park!!

Awesome architecture, well maintained
buildings all about Red Wing, MN

Memorial park had many picnic tables made from
local quarry stone!

The Park views were looking out over the town of Red Wing and the Mississippi River.

Mississippi River view

Band Shell

Johnson's Castle which we
will need to find!

We figure this to be quarry walls of many years gone by.

Water Tower.
Disc Golf !!

Bill and Jane remember wondering what these were at the Church of God Retreat Campground in Ohio?  The gal playing was from one of the picture displays.

Esther when we go back to Red Wing we will stop at the ELKS for a pin for you.

The weather here has been wonderful. It hit 90 Sunday and low 80's yesterday and looks to be that again today.  The breeze is awesome though and wonderful for sitting out to read.

We sure can tell that we are in farm country.  Corn is up about four inches and doing well.  They are talking rain by the weekend. I am sure that it will be needed.

I will take a few pictures about the RV Park here. It is much like Timashamie there in Ohio.  Kids all about, especially on the weekend.  Seems it is a get away for families from the cities. We met a snowbird here who goes to AZ each winter. Judy lost her husband about five years ago and still makes the trip!!  Gives her a lot to focus on in her life.

Gary spent Monday morning washing the roof and all four sides of the motorhome.  Then this morning he began the process of waxing. That won't be done in one day though!!
I did cleaning and finished organizing inside today.  I will go and check out a TOPS Club this evening. So we are getting into a routine. Stay tuned!
