Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

RED OAKS in BUSHNELL, FL and moving on to DISNEY

On February 17th, we located about three hours farther south and we are pleased to say that it is warmer. We have wintered three previous years in Red Oaks RV Park in Bushnell and we look forward to visiting with "old" friends even though we will only be here five days. Yes, we will have to get into shorts!!

Our first visit in the park was in our former neighborhood, two of the few friends still here, Glen and Evelyn.
They are from NY and see no end to their snowbirding.

Our next connection was with Salem OH FFChurch friends who winter in Eustis. We went up to Eustis to see their park and then went to one of our favorite restaurants, Stavros with Greek cuisine. It was the first time that we have taken the time to connect with Cathy and Jim.  We are so glad that we did!!
Cathy and Jim, it was great!!

Then we got to see some of our church friends at First Baptist of Bushnell on Sunday and then dinner out with an AZ friend and our Canadian friends who we met two years ago while here. They are not in our park this time so we only had one day to visit.
Fran, our workamping friend from AZ/IL has changed her winter location and lives in a fifth wheel in IL which she has to winterize when she comes south and then she put another fifth wheel on her FL lot last year across the street from us in Blueberry Hill. She teaches college level classes on the Internet. So she can take her work with her. It is amazing the bargains that you can find in RVs when someone wants to move into a park model or have to quit traveling.
She had traveled with a diesel pick-up with duel wheels all the years that we have known her, but she changed last year and now travels back and forth in a Honda CRV. Everyone we talk to that have switched to the CRV just love them. We are so glad that is what we switched to. She sold her pick-up.
After making the plans to dine with Fran, we got a call from Judy and Jeff, our Ontatio Canada friends. So we decided to have a combined outing even though these friends did not know each other.

We had a great time and look forward to meeting up with them again. That could be possible when we head north in April.
After these visits, it was now time to move on to Disney in Orlando on Monday. We will stay in Disney's Wilderness RV Park.
Traffic coming down was good and weather is great and it is the eighties here. They do have a forecast of some rain on Wednesday. But I am sure that we will get plenty done. We hope to go and see some fireworks this evening at the Marina. Then tomorrow we will hit the floor running??? Not sure how much of this I will tolerate. Time will tell.

This 45 foot motor home came in after we had set up. I was amazed that he got the unit into his lot. They did well!!
Gary went out for a walk to find people who he met in Utah. They work here in the park. He found their location and he plans to connect with them again while we are here. We want to find out more about their workamping for Disney.
Not much more to share with you so will cut this short and share again after we have seen some of the sights tomorrow.

I forgot to show you Justin Bieber's  Prevost motor coach that he uses when he entertains around the country. It was in the Park that we were in at Holt FL. Just his driver was in it now. Had to take a picture and share it. We had entertainers out of Las Vegas in our resort in Mesa AZ and they do the same thing, parking behind the hall and using it as a dressing room.
