Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

MAGIC KINGDOM at DISNEY WORLD

We left Bushnell's Red Oaks at 7 am on Monday, February 22nd, hopefully to avoid much of the traffic.  That worked well for us!!
We arrived at Fort Wilderness RV Park about 10 am, parked and set up housekeeping. After a rest and a time spent looking over the brochure for Fort Wilderness, we decided to go to the Marina nearby and check out the schedules for the ferry to Magic Kingdom the next morning. We got the bus just a hundred feet from our home and realized that we would not need to drive anywhere during our entire stay. Yipee!!
We were glad that we did because we got specific brochures for the Disney Experiences that we wanted to see and bought the tickets. Ouch!
We also took the advice from friends Judy and Jeff about the "Hoop Dee Doo Review Dinner Theatre and got tickets for that for Wednesday, and hoped that we would get back from Hollywood Studios in plenty of time.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23rd
Off by bus and ferry to MAGIC KINGDOM for our first day.

It was interesting to see how many children were dressed princess style for the day!
We dressed comfortably, especially shoes! I forgot sun glasses and a hat for shade. You can be sure that I did not forget the next day!
Crossing the water by ferry to reach the Island, our first view of the castle -
Before we embarked the ferry, we could see that the masses were arriving. But it did not take long to get through the lines. They have the security process for entry down to a science.
Arriving at the Castle first. The streets were so full of tourist traps, that we quickly went through that area.
I did later purchase a small back pack bag, out of necessity! I am sure that I will get a lot of use out of it on down the road.

After a side trip to Mark Twain's feature

we decided to take a train ride around the Magic Kingdom. That was neat and a well needed rest for our poor feet. It was also a quick view of some of the features.

View of the park entrance from a different direction!
Many were enjoying the amusement rides, but not our thing except to take pictures.

We also took in many of the short versions from Disney movies.

Gary then noticed the Hall of President's, so we took that theatre presentation.

Of the displays, we were impressed with Gerald Ford's Eagle Scout Award. I had to take a picture since our grandson was just awarded his in January. I thought he might appreciate this picture.
Since it is February, much of the other displays were for black history.
After four hours mostly of walking, we were definitely ready to return home. That evening we walked over to a bon fire, but did not stay too long as it was definitely geared to the children. We figured that we could better benefit from our recliners and an early to bed.
Tomorrow we have scheduled Hollywood Studios and the Dinner Theatre. So stay tuned.
