Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

SIGHT SEEING AROUND SALT LAKE CITY AND OGDEN, UTAH

Not sure what we were going to do the next day?  There is always something even just a drive about the area!
We stopped at a Bonadventura Fort, which had a few children there as it must be used for multiple youth organizations.

We also can sit at home and watch the trains go by from our front windshield.  Or we can just sit and be rocked to sleep!
The local Amtrax

Also freight trains

Layton Hills Baptist Church

Another LDS Temple with Gabriel and his horn?

There are many churches in the area, in addition to the LDS.  I have not gotten pictures of any though except the Baptist that we attend.  We will be taking a bus tour next Tuesday before we leave the area.  Maybe I will get pictures of some then.  I do know that the mansions of Salt Lake City will be on that tour, but I walked past this one on my walk to Gateway Mall while Gary was in the genealogy Research Center.  I only shopped in a Souviner Shop and Barnes and Noble for just a few tokens.
Devereaux Mansion
Gateway Mall is behind this station.
It sure is a beautiful building.

Amtrax in the city also!
This log cabin has been restored and is located outside of the Research Center.  It is the oldest log cabin in Utah.

When leaving Salt Lake City that day, we took a drive up the hill to go past the Capitol Building. I think that this will be on our bus tour also.

Another day we drove about Ogden which is north of our location in Layton.  We are thinking that it is pretty much yuppie area.  We love the architecture of the schools and thought it amazing that they have been able to maintain them rather than replace with modern.

Ogden High School,
but this is only the central portion!
There is also an indoor swimming pool next door
as well as the usual sports grounds.
When driving up to the Capitol, we just had to take a picture of the homes on the hill top.  we often see houses at higher elevations.  Not sure that we would want to be there, but I imagine that their view is awesome!

Father's day was sure a tragic Sunday for many back in Ohio, including our son and grandson.  A scout friend, Carson, accidentally drowned along with another boy and his father. It is hard to reach out to family when something like that happens.  All we can do is keep them in prayer.
The week before my friend, Barb, also lost her husband.  So much to be in prayer for!

On Monday we will be leaving for a three day trip to see Old Faithful!  So stay with us.
