Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

YUMA ARIZONA and rural BARD CALIFORNIA

It rained all Sunday night, but we were greeted with beautiful sunshine in the morning!  Knowing that the trip to Mesa was going to be about four hours, we decided to try out the Date shake that Bob and Donna kept telling us about. Following them, our first stop after I-HOP for breakfast was Cloud Museum near Bard California. The roads turned from blacktop to quite muddy before we got there.
Cloud Museum at $5 per person.
Of course the guys thought it was well worth it.

Us girls did too, except for the mud.
I just got my mud cleaned off today!  I really got into it with one foot at Gila Bend ELKS on the way home. Thank goodness I had a pair of flip flops to change to.
Even a not so modern RV!

Rustic!

Many restored!
Other transportation and parts!

And more parts!

Gary says this is a Cushman.

Mr. Cloud who collected all of this
 over the last twenty-five years.

Do you suppose Donna is wondering
where the guys are?
While waiting for the guys us girls followed Donna who realized that there was a geo-cache close by. She and Esther found it on the inside of a tractor frame outside the fence.  This was Esther's first geo-cache experience.
When we left Cloud Museum, we backtracked another direction to get our date shake!  It was so like a Blizzard and so-o-o delicious.  Gary wants to go back to Yuma just for that!!  We will have to see if there is anyplace closer that makes them.  There goes the diet!

Note the mountains in the background.

Younger trees

Looks like the guys made quick work of
their shakes.  Bill said they should have
gotten the large ones!

From Imperial we stopped in a casino for about an hour and then said our goodbyes.  We should see Bob and Donna again in Apache Junction when they are on the move again.  They are in Tucson this week.
Our stop in Gila Bend was at their ELKS so that Esther could get a pin for her collection.  It was a brand new building and the pins were not readily accessible so they will send them to her.  It was a beautiful building that was made possible after a lawsuit against the state for a highway miscalculation.

Esther has her usual
Lime Marguerita.
Not my kind of drink though!

looked like in 1935

Since the ELKS would not have any meals before 6 pm, we left there and went to the Space Age Best Western's Restaurant nearby for our dinner.

They had some awesome murals and food.   Full tummys and time to continue on up the road.  The driver is tired and anxious to get home and put his feet up.
It has been a great three days and weather was awesome!  So glad that we went through with the plans even though rain storms were in the forecast!
Take care and hope that you are seeing more sun now also!
