Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

ARRIVED in NORTH LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS

On Tuesday, July 1st, we left Vicksburg and moved through Louisiana and on into Arkansas.  The scenery through Louisiana was just mostly flat farming land.  We thought we were in Indiana almost!!

Crossing bridge on I-20 over the Mississippi River

West side of the Mississippi in Louisiana,
before hitting the farm land

Farms all over and little communities and towns
to go with it.

Then we got into the rolling hills of Arkansas.  More like central Kentucky and Ohio.  We arrived in Little Rock after about five hours, got on I-30 to cross the Arkansas River.   Now in North Little Rock we followed the GPS to Riverfront RV Park.  And I do mean river front.  Very plain little park, but love looking out at the river until they will move neighbors in close to us.  And they will, as they have plans for a full park over the 4th!!

Driving into the RV Park, with river to the right
going around the back near the
walking bridge.

We are parked on the right in this picture.
For the fourth of July we ended with another backed
in front of us leaving little more than two feet
of space between us.  And another motorhome
backed in to our left and behind our neighbor.
The bright side - - - they are leaving the 5th!!
When our view is clear, we can see anything
going by on the river.
This is the Tom Sawyer cruise ship
passing under the walking bridge that we see
from all windows on the left and
from the front when no one is parked there.
They have lights on the bridge that change,
red, white and on to blue.  They are pretty!

I-30 bridge over the Arkansas River, off to our right.
That is Little Rock on the other side.  Awesome at night.

Gary took a walk up and across the pedestrian, bicycle bridge, taking these next pictures.  The fireworks will be set off down the river, straight out from Little Rock.  The story is that a gentleman in the 1800's wanted to be mayor of LR, but was not elected.  So he crossed the river and started his own town and became mayor of it.  Thus, North Little Rock.  It was called Dog Town back then because the people of LR would take their excess dogs across the river to let them go and fend for themselves!!
Our motorhome is in the very center of this picture,
the one with the dolly on the back.

Here we are also about in the center of the picture.
Notice how little lawn there is because of the erosion.
But we did find more lawn at the far end
near a pavilion where six of us could sit out
to watch the fireworks down river.

After setting up home, we just relaxed the rest of the day and read over brochures.  Have to decide what we will do with all of our time!!  Decision made to take the Trolley Tour of Little Rock and North Little Rock the next day.  We will also go to see my great nephew Andrew, wife Kelli and Cole and Olivia.  They have lived here for about two years, since he accepted a youth pastor position at Lakewood United Methodist church.  We are looking forward to seeing how they are doing and getting acquainted with the children, ages seven and four.

Check in again tomorrow and I will show you what we see on the Trolley ride.  Weather is to be beautiful the rest of the week and weekend.  No rain on the horizon.  Take care.
