Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

FLORIDA, HISTORIC BAYPORT PARK on GULF COAST

I just finished scrap booking today by myself and am glad to report that I got ten pages done. I have ten more pages to go before I will need to get another year of photos copied, since I am doing old photos (1985). Some day I will get caught up! I would like to do something with some our travel photos, but will probably just put them on DVD. Since that takes much time, I need other projects behind me and I also need to learn how to use power point first.
I did have a little group getting together every Tuesday here at the park. It does help to have other people to work with. I am hoping that they keep it going next fall. I think that there are many more who will be interested, but we started too late to get them involved this year. Some of them were already heading north when we started. Next time I won't be so hesitant about starting something when I first arrive.
Nancy, Karen and Katherine joined me for the group sessions. It was a good get acquainted time as well as a learning experience for all of us. It is good to learn from each other. They all have homes that they return to in the north. So our sessions have ended for this season.
Karen and her husband moved into a double wide here in the park and they have this trailer and Florida room for sale for $9000 or best offer. And she does say that it is negotiable. Knowing Karen, I would assume that it has been well taken care of and it looks it on the outside, but I did not go through it. Now if you need a winter getaway, it would be just the thing. They have been wintering here for years.
Yesterday we did a spur of the moment trip! That is unusual for us as Gary is a planner, sometimes to a fault! A neighbor in the park told him about a store where you could find cabinets and much more for RV's, so we decided to go with them and check it out. We are wanting to build a desk work area for my scrap booking where the dinette was and we need cabinets and counter top to match the kitchen counters or the cabinet's wood. We got the name of a company where we can order and also got the location of another provider in Euclid, Ohio who may be able to help us with it when we reach Ohio.
After finishing in this store and a couple more stores, Glen and Evelyn mentioned a park on the Gulf that is extremely nice. So we decided to go on over there, which meant going back by our park and then on in the opposite direction. Talk about making a day of it!! But it sounded good and Evelyn had sunset photos on her cell phone that made it more enticing.
We then stopped at Arby's for our picnic lunch and went on past the Weeki Wachee Park to
Bayport Park where we ate and waited for the sunset.
It was extremely windy and we watched the birds having difficulty flying even!
We could see a small boat out fishing and another boat began going out through the markers into the Gulf
, but it turned around and came back.
Maybe to much wind?
The clouds began to come in and obscure the sun. We got some good pictures but we will have to come back another time to get the sunset pictures!
With the wonderful picnic area and aluminum walkway with many benches to sit and enjoy
, we will definitely visit there again!
