Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

Leaving Blythe Island Baptist Church Friends in GEORGIA

Greetings from Bushnell, Florida (I almost wrote Georgia!) I have to stop to think about where we are at the present time! Do you think that we have been too many places? But it is fun. We just had company this evening (January 14th) from Salem, Ohio when Bill and Esther stopped. They are headed farther south and stopped on their way. I think that it might be to our advantage staying within a quarter mile of I 75. We may see Bill and Esther in the morning before they start on. We have other friends from Ohio here in the Sunshine State and relatives as well. We hope to look them all up while we are here. We had no sooner pulled onto our site and a car pulled in behind us. He had noticed our Ohio plate on the car and he is from Columbiana. His site is just four from us. I told Gary when we change the car plates to Florida to match the scooter and the motorhome we will need to get another sign to put in our back window to show where we hail from. Otherwise, we might miss out on some good fellowship! It is always bittersweet to leave an area just as it was Georgia. We began our stay in Brunswick, Georgia with a Christmas Cantata at Blythe Island Baptist Church and were blessed with their singing. The adults sang as well as the children . There was a "little" girl who did a solo, but she was so short we could not get a picture of her. She was quite outstanding!! I asked people later if she has had lessons, but they thought not. We were in a very nice Sunday School Class again and were blessed with many new friends and many good lessons. Before we left, they planned their overdue fish fry so that we could be there the Saturday before our departure. Yum--m-my. They know how to deep fry fish as well as how to catch them! And they showed us their true southern cooking talent, as well. Our associate Pastor Scott and his wife (seated in this picture) joined our gathering. It was wonderful to be able to get to know him better. He also has an outstanding voice and leads the singing every Sunday. Barbara, standing, is the wife of our teacher and was visiting with us also. The only picture that I got of our teacher was when he was cleaning up with the mop. But he took a little time out of his duties to show me the high school fellowship area with the music or food (I am not sure which) area , the booths and the pool tables . There was also a platform for a speaker or leader. It all was neat and I am sure they have many hours of fun here! Our dinner was set up in the younger aged youth area. It was unique in design also! The ladies in the kitchen who did all the work preparing food and setting up did a great job, as well as the ones who prepared their favorite dishes at home to bring. I do believe that everyone had a good time visiting as well. Chuck and Camillia in the center of this picture invited us to share dinner with them at IHOP our first Sunday in the church. It sure helps make one feel at home. Thank you!
It was also interesting what the church did to house their growing congregation. The area in the right side of this photo with the grey roof is the original church and Sunday school area (you can see the steeple through the tree). Then when more space was needed they built a new separate building for the sanctuary which is only connected to the old building by a covered walkway . There is more than one way to cover a need. We are always inspired when we see something different.
So keep watching and see what we find next!
