Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

Leaving Cortland, NY

I told you that I would include photos of interesting Victorian houses of the area around Cortland, NY as there was plenty of them. But we didn't stop the car often enough to take the photos. These are the few that we did take. Though not Victorian, this second one was more elaborate and along Lake George with the back of it looking out over the lake. As we were headed for Ft. Ticonderoga, the drive along Lake George surprised us as being a very touristy area (trap?). It was interesting though and some of it yuppie. This was typical of the many many gift shops . Then we saw this Cruise boat on Lake George which lies between the mountains as most of the NY lakes do. Didn't think about going on it as we will do that sort of thing on the St. Lawrence River this next week instead.

Passed this Steakhouse and took this photo for you D.J, we do think of you often. And Richie, I thought of you when I took this one of a miniature golf course. You would have loved it! If you want to see it better, just double click on it and it will be full screen.

After the trip up along Lake George we went to Ft. Ticonderoga, where we walked through and listened to it's history. These guns were aimed out over Lake George . The other side of the fort looked out over the valley north of the lake (We sure do get mixed up on our directions). I never thought I would say that as I always was able to determine directions as long as the sun was out. We went to this Fort for the 250th Re-enactment of the war between the French from Canada & the British with the Indians involved on both sides.

This is the Yellow Lantern Kampground that we left in Cortland. It was nice, quiet and very relaxing because of the trees. The large maple on our lot kept us busy cleaning up after it dropped all the seeds, especially since it rained every day. The office was just one trailer away from us and had laundry facilities which I was thankful for. I'm not as fortunate here at Thousand Islands. As you can see Gary has the campfire cooking under control . These are the sites we looked out our front window upon.

Just before we left we went out and took a photo of the UMC that we attended while there. The service was much like the Friends we were used to at home except smaller and more casual. We will try a First Christian Church here in Clayton, NY next.
