Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

Concerts and Boat Watching

We have found fun in just going to concerts in the parks at both Alexandria Bay and Clayton in between our more costly excursions. This way we also run across book sales, arts and craft shows/festivals and do some boat watching! I love the water and reading so could do this all day! Frink Park at Clayton is right at the wharf but no shelter so we get plenty of sun there until it sets. That is also where the kids swim off the wharf . It is very deep there and the Coast Guard Ship was docked there Sunday early before the concert. But the depth doesn't seem to bother the kids. The first Sunday evening concert we went to was a young Canadian fellow who does CD's of music he has written, most with a Christian message which would appeal to teens. The place where we stopped to eat on our first Sunday was the Harbor Inn Restaurant which gave us a view of the river and the Antique Boat Museum. We decided that we would do the boat museum another day. On the way back to the campground we found The Gal's Ice Cream place, where the Cruis' in is each Friday in front of our campground, really lined up again with people . Seems this is usual for the weekends especially. They sure do a booming business. Then we found that at Scenic View Park at Alexandria Bay there is a concert every Wednesday evening in a large pavilion . It is amazing how they build on so much rock surface . They also create small man made projections out into the water for park area . These concerts are done for donation to benefit local non-profit organizations. Our first one there was a band of 31 years who did big band music from the 30's and 40's. They are the Arythmias as they were started by doctors mostly from the Watertown area. This has changed over the years to people from all walks of life. We really enjoyed them!! This week they had Buskers which their keyboard player said means street corner musicians. I'll let you look that up in the dictionary as I couldn't find ours here in the MH. I was sure that I kept a small one, but who knows where! A couple of them were from NH and the other two near here and they played an eclectic type of music which one or the other of them had written. After the first couple of songs, we really enjoyed it. They really get into their stuff! While listening and watching them, we also saw the usual jet skis and speed boats . But we also saw another freighter , sailboat and canoe . It is amazing how fast the large ships go past. So we must be quick with the camera. Pearl and Sherry, I found lots of John Grisham's books at the sale and had to get some more, though I really don't have room for them! I also found a small motel and cafe' called P J's near our campground. It looks pretty nice. Didn't know you were in business here Pearl. Don't know if I will go back to the book sale today or not. But they will let them go by the bagful for just a donation!! There is a Decoy and Wildlife Art Show that Gary may go to also. I really can pass that up, but then I can READ and wait instead!
Have more to show you so stay with us! Hope you are having an enjoyable summer also.
