Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

ACTIVITIES Usually Including Friends and FOOD !!

From the look at my photos, it seems that I have not done a Blog about anything since Thanksgiving and Victor's visit.  I guess it is time that I get caught up!!!

November 27th we went to an afternoon Coffee at a resident friend's home here in our resort.  It was a very nice visit which included many who we had not had an opportunity to visit with before.  As with any community, there are friend groups. But we like to see those pulled together from time to time.

The gentleman talking with his hands is the
World Traveler we have here in the resort.

Lillian and George on the right who live in
one of the back corner lots in the resort.  We got
better acquainted with them at church and church functions.

Our neighbors, Gary and Cathy
and the host, Norm, elder.

Cathy, Norm, Diane and her mother Cathy,
and Ted who we often connect with.

Gary talking with Lee next to him.
John, Noretta and Debbie just to Lee's left.

After Victor left, Gary also went to the Arcadia Desoto Art Centre to spend time drawing and greeting people who stopped by to see the gallery.  He does this sort of thing at two different galleries in the area. This particular gallery will soon be moving as they had an offer for the building that houses them, which they could not turn down!!  But the date of the move and location have not been determined yet.

December began with Audrey's second new job of running the weekly Bingo. That will be fun for the whole season once she learn's the ropes.  She has to engage a caller each week also.  The money part of it should not be difficult as what comes in must go right back out.

On Friday, December 3rd, our world traveler here in the resort put on a travel log show for us.  This one was Island Hopping the Seychelle Islands off the east coast area of Africa.  Jim Hendrickson is retired from teaching, but he continues his book writing about his travels, etc.  You can find him on the Internet.  He will hold three or four more Travel Log Shows here before taking his 24 ft. home and rolling along.

His pictures show much of the Seychelle
Island's beautiful native habitat, etc.

This is one of his slide pictures.
As you can see their life is much
like ours here in the states.

Gary continues with his jaunts around our area which includes the Tea Party meetings where he learns much about noted politics and what is happening historically around the world.  He also found a prayer breakfast meeting to attend which is much like the Men's Breakfast there in Ohio.

It is a good thing that I enjoy staying at home, because during that time I composed a short Christmas letter, addressed Christmas cards, and read my books.  I am working on my flower beds also, where I planted more flowers to fill in the gaps and removed the grass trimmings that accumulated over the summer.  There is still more cleaning out to do.

Sunday, December 5th, our New Hope Baptist Church, which is up the road a mile from our resort, held a breakfast for the seniors (as in grey hair people).  It was awesome and delicious.  Amazing that we were able to stay awake through our Adult Bible fellowship after.  But we did!!

The couple on the left are the Robertson's
who's farm we visited, which I will show
in the next couple Blogs.
The lady in the blue apron organized
the breakfast!

Our cooks and servers who did a great job!!

Couple on far side of table, facing the camera,
Lillian and George.  Also our next door
neighbors in our resort, Bob and Betty.

I will have to find the name of the lady on
your left.  But Margaret and Dewey
 are talking with her.
Then we had an ice cream social in the afternoon here at the resort!!  And on Monday morning they serve us a low cost breakfast here, after which they hold our activity announcements for the week.  We certainly are not going to go hungry!  And I do very little cooking.  We did buy a new looking (used) propane table-top grill.  So we need to get busy using that soon.

I do have more lunches out and carry-in dinners to tell you about in the next Blog.  I especially have to tell you about those because of the beautiful settings here in south Central Florida.  So stay tuned!!
