Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

LEAVING PENSACOLA FLORIDA to go farther SOUTH

Soon leaving Pensacola, land of the Blue Angels.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 29TH - Our last Sunday in church and with our friends for dinner.
It has been a great month catching up with friends, visiting and eating out. It was great to see that friends there with so many health issues are much better now. Some of them have had a rough year.
In 2012 when we first attended Olive Baptist, we thought it was out of our league as it was so large. You can check it out on the web and listen to Ted Traylor's messages. He really is the reason that we went back to find a SS Class. But with the right Sunday School Class we felt that we fit right in and made some fast friends. It is now time for us to move on south for this winter.
Original sanctuary when they first moved to this location.

The newer large sanctuary which holds somewhere
between 5000 to 8000 people located behind the
former sanctuary.
I never did hear the actual seating capacity. I just know that
they stuffed 3200 bulletins with food pantry lists.

The "new middle school age" children's building
for classes and activities.  Dedication and tour to be
held after services, Sunday, Feb 5th.
The main lobby as seen from the
second floor where our class meets.
Thank goodness for the elevator.
There are five entrances just from
this lobby.

I did find a scrapbooking group that meets in the building once a month for twelve hours on a Friday. I look forward to meeting with them again when we return to Pensacola.
We left early January 30th on I-10 heading east across the bridge over the bay with a destination for the day to be Bushnell, Florida, heading south on I-75.
Pearl, how many times did we make this trip to go to Verlyn's in Crestview? Many memories in this area for us, including our stays with Claude when he went through his cancer treatments, and to empty his house and settle his estate. So sad!!

We have wintered in Bushnell before so went to the same resort for a couple days.
Red Oaks Resort
We got to go to lunch with NY friends, Glen and Evelyn, who we met in 2009 in this same resort.
Others that we had met back then no longer are able to winter there. The traveling becomes a problem as we all get older. Don and Lois, we especially missed you. So glad that we live so close to you in Ohio and can still see you!!
After lunch with Evelyn and Glen we went across the street to visit with our friend, Fran, who we first met and worked camped with in Mesa AZ.
She now winters in Bushnell from Illinois. She was suffering with a bad cold so we did not go out to eat. But a couple hour visit was great! We look forward to seeing her again, maybe in April when we hope to be near there again.
Since Gary removed the desk that he had made me for the motorhome to now use in our condo, we got another table that is about the size that was originally in the motorhome. He attached it to the wall with a mount that lets us move it right or left as needed.  We now need to find a wood bench for one side of the table that we can slide the table over when the bench is not needed for seating. And I decided that I do want to use my office chair for the other side so will find a folding chair that can be placed beside it. We will then be able to seat four for game playing.  And I will still be able to scrapbook and maybe do a puzzle when I want.  It will be more functional for us. The former desk will get much more use in the condo.  It is a beautiful desk, but we are always changing things. Haha!!
The last stretch of our trip south put us in Arcadia, FL. We are near the Escapee Co-op resort that we want to buy into when our name becomes number 1 on their list. We expect that to be another 12 to 18 months. While here we will go to Southwest Florida "Salem Day" in N. Fort Myers and we will also visit with my nieces, nephews, and greats! They are having a lot of company now so will not bother them a lot. But it will be good to see them and their growing families.
It is looking like I might have to fly north to help Gary's sister for a time when she leaves the nursing home after her rehab. We really hate to see her living alone, but that is her choice. So hope that she gets along okay that way.  Only time will tell. Her home time between hospital visits this year has been four weeks at the most. So that is not a good record.
Take care now and have a good winter. Ours is wonderful!!
