Ready to Roll

Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

GULF SHORES ALABAMA STATE PARK

Our trip west was pretty much uneventful, thankfully.  We took two days to make it easy!!  No hurry in our lives at this time.  We stopped in Marianna FL's Walmart our first night and saw a AT&T store nearby.  Since we are on AT&T we thought we could have a smart phone which had been given to us by friends activated for our use.  Well they told us they could not do anything for us, but they had a phone for just 99 cents that we could get without a charge to our account since we were long overdue for upgrades.  Since then we had them activated in Folly AL, and have been playing with them.  I never thought that something meant to be Smart could make one feel so dumb!!  But we are learning slowly and if we do not get your calls answered promptly, don't worry as we will return your call.

On the road we stopped for gas where Gary thought we might not be able to pull on through because of the motorcycle ahead.  But space was more than ample.  The rider was sure dressed for the occasion and had his buddy with him.

Rider should stay warm, for sure.
His buddy in back!

We arrived at Gulf Shores State Park in AL shortly after noon on the second day after leaving Bushnell FL.  A good trip and a beautiful State Park to set up in for a month.
We are last in the row in this section.
It is a pretty large and nice State Park.

The beach is not too far away and we intend to take advantage of it if it every quits raining and the sun shines!

We certainly hope that weather is conducive when our son and his nephew (our grandson) arrive for spring break next week.

Our first full day was spent driving over to Pensacola to pick up our week's mail, finish my banking here and do some shopping around.  It was a full day with lunch at Fazoli's.

We were scheduled to meet up with old friends from Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola on Saturday for a picnic, rain or shine.  So Friday I spent some time cooking and going in to Folly to check out a scrap booking store and the AT&T store.

Saturday turned into a very rainy afternoon and we were glad that there was a building to use.  It was so much fun to get caught up on news and meet a newly married couple who had just first attended class the weekend before.  Fun and Great Food!!

The Pace utilities department has a very nice location with lakes and building for just such an occasion, and someone in the class has connections.  It would have been even more beautiful with the sunshine to show up the azaleas across the lake.

We have been out for walks in the park twice between rains.  We need to be doing it every day!!  And we hope to get on with it.

Our home on wheels and a nice location!
Pull through spot, which we really like.

The Park's street markers.
On Tuesday we took a bus tour to Biloxi, Mississippi, which is always good to avoid the driving and gas cost.  A good way to avoid the rains also.

We will be going into Pensacola again soon to have check-ups with doctors here and to get scripts.  And we have been invited to a friend's house for lunch. We don't go in too often as the drive is an hour, at least, for just one way.

So will be back with you again real soon.  Take care!!
