Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

VISITING OHIO FRIENDS IN SOUTH CAROLINA

Hello from Dreher Island State Park again!!  I wanted to include a map picture of Lake Murray and where we are located, especially for Donna and Ray, to see how large the lake is(all within the jagged lines)!!  There sure is a lot of fishing done here.  We are located in the park on the island where the star is in the center of the picture.

On our day off, Monday, we took a planned trip to a little town of Iva, SC to meet up with Jan and Jack from our home church in Salem OH.  They have relocated to Iva and we were curious what the attraction was to draw them there.  The attraction happened to be family who settled in that area for employment, but the area also turned out to be a quite nice.  We enjoyed the scenery as we went into the hills for our two hour drive.  The colors are still good here and the green pine sets it off well!!

We found Jan and Jack doing very well in their new home!!  It is a lovely home with room for company which they have been making good use of!! Jack was out blowing leaves.  He said, "No grass, just leaves!"  They have tried many things to get grass growing, but the sand just comes to the surface again.

It was wonderful to visit and so nice to get better acquainted with them!!  We look forward to a next time!!  They had experiences from past travels as well.

Thank you Jack and Jan for a wonderful time and a delicious dinner!!  Our trip home was interesting and most of it was done before full darkness.  We saw four deer as soon as we got into our park.  On the way I also took some pictures of interesting buildings.
This house was not too far from Iva.  Quite a house, huh?

We also thought the town of McCormick to be interesting looking. Have you checked it out?

I also took this next picture hoping that we could find out on the Internet what kind of business it is.  I thought that I would remember the name on it, but did not.  I do know that it had something to do with wire and cables.  Jack, have you noticed it before?

We spent today going in to Columbia to Camping World to get a new mattress for our bed.  We were a little apprehensive as we have never had a foam mattress.  And it was pressure packaged in a box that appeared much to small.  But it turned out quite all right and seems very comfortable!!  We had been looking for quite some time for something suitable.  It had to be a queen short to fit our home and they are difficult to find.  So we were glad to have the mission accomplished!!
Not much else planned.  Just know that Thanksgiving is coming up and they expect the park to be full that week.  I understand there will be plenty of deep frying of turkeys.  Guess we will have to get to know our neighbors!!
This coming Sunday will be Homecoming day at the church we attend here.  We are looking forward to that.  Take care and we wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!!
