Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

CRAFT FAIR HERE AT MT HOOD RESORT IN OREGON

Our computer connections have been so bad that it has been difficult to take care of e-mails and banking, without considering doing Blogs or surfing. Therefore, we have not kept you up to date on our excursions and daily lives. Since tonight seems to be a good connection, I will try again to do this short Blog on an Art and Craft show held here in the Mt. Hood RV Resort.
The participants showed everything from fragrances in soaps and toiletries to jewelry, hand made boats and kayaks, paintings, photography and needlework. It was quite an array of talent even though only a few vendors. So enjoy the pictures and I will only make a few comments.
Gary sure was admiring the awesome woodworking!! Much talent here!!
The plants below and the dragonfly were the work of a fellow worker here at the park and his friend. I was sure tempted to buy a ceramic boot with a frog on the tongue, a frog on the toe and hens and chicks planted in it. But I passed it by knowing that we really do not have room for it and it would be a worry when moving down the road. I would have hated it if it were to get broken.
When we went back to the fair the next day to see what was left, I was glad that the boot was sold. No more temptation!!
This next lady's work is done under S.J. Original Doodles and she is from Portland. I told her that there was nothing doodling about her work as it is beautiful. She showed many paintings in various stages of progress (none done from pictures, all from memory) and then the wood figures finished with very thick coatings of urethane.
This was a vase and awesome!!! This arrangement was actually several pieces that could be re-arranged to your liking and truly beautiful. I am amazed at what can be done with wood, bark, and just plain old gnarly pieces found in the forest around here.
So even though it was a small show, it was very good!!
The next few free days were spent on excursions in to Portland and that will be in separate Blogs. So check them out.
Today two other women that work here in the park with us, and I went in toward Sandy to Calamity Jane's for hamburgs, fries and some good old fashioned visiting!! We had a great time and added a new experience to our hamburgs!! I ordered a "little" burger extra that we could sample in addition to our regular order. I did not want to leave Oregon without trying their hamburger with peanut butter and honey!! Yes, you heard that right. I would not order it again, though, unless I did it without the honey and adding dill pickles. Yes, that is the way I fix a peanut butter sandwich, usually with dill pickles!! And we found the best midget dills at Bi-Mart here. The season must be over for them now though, as I can not find them anymore. Actually, you do not taste the hamburg when eating this, just peanut butter and honey.
They also have one with hot fudge and marshmallow!! Maybe I will try that one next, but not promising.
On our way back home this is the view of Mt. Hood that we saw!! We even turned around to go back and take pictures!! Notice how the sky is so clear except for the clouds below the mountain peak.
