Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

WHALE WATCHING off OREGON COAST

Monday began very cloudy, but we left for the Coast anyway to take boat out to look for whales. We did check with them first to make sure that were running the tours. We arrived with only twenty minutes to spare. The area surrounding the dock was interesting as well.

Boat coming into the Depoe Bay
The marina where Tradewinds tours depart from.
Our boat, the Mariner, is just tying up for us to board. Think it will hold all 29 of us?
Our Captain of the Mariner
As we left the bay we made our own waves also, but it was choppy for at least a half mile out!
It is still very cloudy but not raining!! That is better than we could say about Sandy OR where our Mt. Hood Village Resort is!! It has rained almost every since we arrived, maybe five sunny days since mid May.
Highway 101 running all along the Pacific Coast is visible here, from on our boat. It is a beautiful coastline!!
Whales at last! We knew where they would be as their spray was visible first.
You had to be Johnny On the Spot to get the picture because their dive was quick. You would be lucky to get the tail fin!!
Since our boat had to stay a good distance from them, we had to use zoom and still crop them on my computer program. There have been laws passed to keep the safe distance for the whales because they were often injured by the boat propellers.
Gary was using the good camera and would be focused for the dive following the spray, then our boat would rock leaving him with a picture of the sky instead. He had quite a time getting good pictures.
While out, we only saw one other boat. Was it not a good fishing day??
It was rocky enough that I was not the only one holding on tight!!
I did have a small camera up my sleeve so that I could get a few photos that Gary could not get.
Back in the Bay all too soon, with the Captain off to await his next tour.
After we left the Bay, we decided to stop in at a Beach just north of the Bay.
We were surprised at how many were out there in jeans and long sleeve shirts. We decided that it was not worth taking the shoes off to keep from getting them filled with sand. So we left and went on to Antique Shops. I got a shopping bag half full of books for twenty cents each, and most of them were new. I guess that they get them from estates that they take in. So I was happy!!
Richie, we took these pictures of their Matchbox car displays. I think that your dad should make shelves like these for all of your cars! Right??
The shelf was only as deep as the cars are wide! A good display!!
We hope that you enjoyed the pictures. We will be back in a couple days to show you our tour of the Allegro Bus display here in the park.
Take care!!
