Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

KEEPING BUSY in MESA and SCOTTSDALE ARIZONA !!

Our Sunday School Class has a potluck dinner with entertainment or a speaker once a month. We do enjoy the camaraderie and the contacts outside of our RV park. Most places it would be local people. But I don't think that Arizona has many local people, just Snowbirds. That population will be moving north the first of April and more in May. Our entertainment at Tuesday's potluck were the Regalaires from Mesa Regal RV Resort, no less! The park is so large that we did not know any of them. They were good and did a full concert at Mesa Regal on the weekend also. However, we opted for the movie in the park that night rather than the concert. As you can see, spring is just around the corner!! They have just finished picking the grapefruit and ranges here in the park and the trees are in bloom again!! Ohio friends of ours here in Apache Junction AZ invited us to go out to dinner and then to the church that they attend for the Blackwood Quartet. It was a most enjoyable evening and not just because it broke our dieting fast!! Lovely visit and great conversation over dinner, and great entertainment after dinner!!
Then we got so carried away with breaking the diet fast that we double booked on the following Sunday. We went to dinner at Silke's Restaurant with friends, Dave and Laura, from here in the park. They are also fellow workampers. Laura is fortunate to have a job at Mt. Rushmore that keeps her busy year around. She just does the winter work from their motorhome here in the south!! And Dave then does double work hours for here in the park.
After that dinner at 1 pm, went to the neighbor's, Cliff and Linda, for a potluck dinner at 4 pm. What a feast!! And it was great to meet a few more close neighbors and visit. I hope that we get a chance to do this again before we leave the area. However, since we are coming back here January 2012, we will be close again then.
It wasn't bad enough that we over did the eating on Sunday, we did it again Tuesday!! Our Fifth St. neighbors had a block pizza party at noon and the potluck dinner at church that evening. I got to meet more neighbors who Gary has been visiting with all season. He is such a socializer!! I know, I know, you guys would have another name for that.
They played bean bag toss while waiting for the pizza to be ready. It really did not take long!! The Five Star Pizza Party lady sure has a method to her business. I am sure that she is kept busy during the Snowbird season with all of the block parties in the many Resorts in this part of the country. She made five kinds and it looks like a total of 35 baked in the six ovens. It all fits in her mini van. Most of the ladies on the street brought desserts. Now that we did try to refrain from!!
Notice Gary standing under the grapefruit tree there on the left.
This past Saturday we went to an outdoor Art Festival in Scottsdale AZ. It is such a beautiful town and affluent. I would imagine that the patrons are much more willing to buy at this show, much like Mt. Dora FL.
Some of the art, such as this beautiful glass, was not under canopy for shade. The sun made it so enjoyable and the fountain behind did much to enhance it!
One of the bands playing was under this canopy in a platform out over the pond on the grounds. And such green grass to enjoy. I wonder how much water goes into maintaining this?
The children sure enjoyed the grounds and the LOVE sculpture!!
I "almost" got the picture of this artist signing his painting for the your ladies purchasing it. I was just a tad slow on the draw!! His work was great and he was explaining that he does a lot of it while at the shows.
The next gentleman was more than willing to have his picture taken beside his unique booth. No canopy for him!!
Gary was taken in by this work of leather and wood!! He did take this close-up picture. We hesitate to do this very often without asking permission. Most of the artists do not want you taking pictures of their pieces of art. I guess they are afraid people would copy. Unfortunately, most of us would not have the talent to do so!!
We did ask to take pictures of a woman's embroidery scenes and flowers, but she was not in attendance at the time, and her daughter was reluctant to give permission. But there is no way anyone would be able to duplicate her work. At least no one from this country. It was all hand stitched, not machine and with very, very fine silk thread. She has studied the art in both China and Japan over several years time. Looking at the pieces, I would think that it would take years to do one!! Lovely, lovely!!
By time we left, I was very hungry!! I had not eaten since the evening before and it was past noon. But when Gary asked if I wanted to top at McDonald's, I declined!! I could not see eating that kind of food. We needed something more wholesome. Right?
So we stopped at The Land Mark Restaurant when we got back in Mesa. It is an old church turned into a fine restaurant!! And I mean "fine" food also!! We will have to abstain for days or weeks now!!
By the time we left, this dining room was FULL of people. I guess others had the same idea.
Take care and we hope this finds you all well and enjoying a little warmer weather. Spring should be around the corner!!
