Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

HILTON HEAD LIGHTHOUSE In SOUTH CAROLINA

Views from the pier, from the beach and from the dock & condos. It was partly cloudy that day but never rained. A beautiful day for the excursion! This harbor town lighthouse was built in 1969/1970 by Charles Fraser, to be referred to as Fraser's Folly at that time, later to be considered a stroke of genius. Fraser built it in an effort to attract boaters along the Intracoastal waterway. It has become a symbol for all of Hilton Head as well as South Carolina and is now recognized as one of the nation's well known landmarks. After spending our rainy Tuesday window shopping at Savannah's Malls, we went off to see the lighthouse on Hilton Head Island; not the beach as it would be too, too busy for our taste, and not shopping in the many, many stores of the island, but to climb the 62 steps to the top of their famous lighthouse. We found the island very beautiful and can understand the attraction, but it is too affluent and commercialized for our taste. What amazes us is who would spend their prices when you could spend less for the same things right down the road on the mainland. We circled the island on the main road to get to Fraser's Point and spent a couple hours there people watching, checking out the boats, sitting out on the pier and eating lunch at a restaurant at the base of the lighthouse. It was a most enjoyable time!
We watched a group out para sailing. We could hear them over the water. I do believe that it was all girls except the instructor and captain of the boat. After the para sailing, we saw them preparing to go out with kayaks. Sounded like a fun, fun day to me!

We returned to Thomas' RV Resort near Hardeeville, SC which is just a twelve mile drive to Savannah, GA and not much farther from Hilton Head and many other attractions.

Stay with us and see what tomorrow brings!
I saw this in one of the gift shops. Guess who it made us think of?? And of course, it could not be because any one is loosing their hearing, right?
