Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

Trip North To Ohio For A Week

March began with a busy schedule, trying to cram in as much as possible before we head north for doctor appointments. We went down to Plant City for the Strawberry Festival and enjoyed the trip down. But after the traffic snarl to get back, we decided that one strawberry festival was enough. We will get our strawberry shortcake out in front of our campground at the ice cream stand when we get the urge!! They did have rides, all kinds of fair concession stands, vendors, and live entertainment. We tried the Bob Berry show in the grandstands, but decided that his songs were not really any that we remembered. So not worth the time. We did watch the gal with the hoo-la hoops and the young man who rode his motorcycle around inside the large ball behind her . They were good and worth the time. They also had a gal at the top of a pole doing her acrobatics . And she was good. Some of my pictures were too much in shadow so I need to realize which side that I need the sun on for the best picture!! The following Saturday I went to a ladies Salad & Tea Luncheon at the church and had a fun time visiting with more women of the church. Some dressed up with their fancy hats and they played the part with the fancy tea cups also. The speaker they had was very inspiring. My pictures from that are on my cell phone and I can not download them to the computer until I get back home where my equipment is. Needless to say, I had to use the cell phone because I forgot to take the camera with me to the luncheon! Seems this is getting to be a habit! I refuse to acknowledge that it is older age!!! I spent several days scrap booking trying to finish up Victor's album before we go north. I also scheduled a scrap booking workshop at the camp ground to spark some interest for ladies to work together. That went well with four of us working together. Two of the ladies have never scrap booked before, so I am sure that the other two of us will be coaching a lot. But then that is how I learned and keep on learning!! I was just so glad that I had prepared a two page spread for them to assemble that day. They now have a list of basic supplies and tools to buy for our next work day. There again, I forgot to take my camera with me!! Have you ever heard of The Casinos, a music group from Cincinnati? They got their start in 1957 and are still performing. Ken Brady, one of the original Casinos, was at our campground to perform the night before we left to go north. He was an excellent singer and sang all of those oldies that we still remember the words for! I hope they get him back again. I think that he now lives in Lakeland FL, and he has a new duo with him for background (Tony and Trich, father and daughter). You can find him on the Internet. On Thursday we finally were packed and ready to hit the road at 7:30 am to head north. We went by way of Daytona. "Daytona?" you say. Yes, my niece and her husband, Tina and Larry, are vacationing with his sister and brother-in-law, Priscilla and Jim at Daytona for six weeks. We met up with them at Cracker Barrel for breakfast and had a very nice visit. I do think that the Florida bug might be biting all of them also. I think that they were glad to be out of the sub zero weather and snow in Indiana and to be able to visit Tina and Larry's children and grandchildren on the Gulf coast of Florida. Anyway, Lexington SC is almost a straight shot north from Daytona!!! By time we left Cracker Barrel , it was pouring rain so all we could do was take a picture of the Daytona Speedway behind C B and hit the road. We drove all day in the rain, very heavy at times . The rain stayed with us until we reached Lexington, SC. There we met our friend, Sandy, and had dinner at Harbor Inn and spent the night at her house. The fish was great and we had looked forward to that and our visit! Unfortunately again, we missed Sandy's husband Mike. He was in Macon GA on a truck run. Of course, they were glad that he was working as work has been hard to come by. The next morning we were on the road again and arrived in Boardman at Victor's at mid-day Saturday. So Sunday after church at our home church and visiting with everyone a little, we had to get together with family at Golden Corral for dinner . Yes, that is a cast on our grandson's arm. He did that roller skating Friday night. So now we will try to help work in his doctor appointments with mine! But it seems that all we do is eat to socialize and you know what that is going to do to our weight!!! And I have to answer to the doctors this week. Yikes!! So check in with us again and I will try to keep you up on our outings here in Ohio. Stay warm!!
