Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

IN FLORIDA AND ON THE ROAD AGAIN !

As usual, we are leaving a good group of friends behind as we leave the fellowship of The First Baptist Church of Bushnell, FL. However, with this being a large community of Snowbirds many had left before us, missing the Easter dinner at our Sunday School Teacher's house. Joyce and Dan hosted a lovely dinner and fellowship. As always we are just really getting better acquainted and hate to leave the friends. Lee on the right in this picture was our first teacher when we arrived. He and his wife Karen are sitting here with Joyce's son, Russ. Gary had the pleasure of getting better acquainted with Lee when they attended a car show after I left for Ohio to help my brother. Lee was so pleased to announce his victory over cancer by having his chemo port removed this week! God does answer prayer!! My stay in Ohio stretched from three weeks to more than five weeks and two cancelled flights. We spent the first three weeks looking for assisted living locations for my brother and going to doctors to get diagnosis of his problems. During this time his swelling continued to get worse and I finally took him to the hospital to be treated for congestive heart failure. This hospital stay ended with my having to admit him to a skilled (?) nursing rehab center, as the hospital would not discharge him to go home alone or to the assisted living location without strengthening him. This opened a whole new can of worms and we are still trying to get him discharged from the nursing home. We and the assisted living directors are working to get a discharge this week. I did leave my nephew, Charles, holding this bag and hope all goes well! From the time that Wayne went into the hospital, we were busy on his condo getting his things sorted and disposed of. It was a real feat to get this pretty well finished in about ten days. There again, I left Charles holding this bag also! But I trust that he and his wife can get this finished and get it on the market and sold. I know it will be difficult with the market as it is now. But we are trusting that the Lord will provide us with a buyer! The job of sorting 28 years of accumulation seemed insurmountable, but thanks to some very special people giving of their precious time, it was successful!! I am sure that he may think of things that he will wonder where they are, but we did the best we could. He definitely was not able to even concentrate on the process!! A special Thank You to Charles and his family, to Roger and his truck and also to cousin, Bill!! I could not have done it without you all! And for those of you who visited in the hospital and nursing home to bring worship and communion to Wayne, special thanks also. God also answers those needs!! So Wayne's few belongings are moved into his assisted living location, they just need him there in person!! While I was in Ohio you would think that Gary would be so lonely!! NOT! The fellow RVer's kept him occupied and consequently well fed ! I don't think that he was ever bored. He did get a few miscellaneous jobs done on the motorhome as a surprise for me. Then they almost let the cat out of the bag that he did not have to do laundry while I was gone. There was a laundry with an attendant across the road by Walmart who did it for him. I had even left him written instructions for doing it on his own. I told him that he could do it for the next two weeks so that I could be sure that he knows how!! This train was in the yard of one of the permanents at the Red Barn Resort. We thought it was cute and Gary finally got a couple pictures while I was away.
Now we are at a new location in the panhandle of FL and will be here for two weeks before going on into Alabama. It is much greener here and wonder if it is because of all of the recent rain. I sat out in the sun today and enjoyed it. No Spanish moss here!
See you on down the road!
