Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

Before any SNOW, We are headed SOUTH!!

These are the last photos taken here at Pumpkin Patch Resort. It is a beautiful setting. The green John Deere wagon was confiscated from a field near here and restored. It makes an attractive setting at the entrance. This land was a farm turned campground and we have had the privilege of having home grown tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers from a small garden at one side of the grounds. We had our first fried green tomatoes today and they were so good that we got more to take with us. They are getting ready to till it under as the weather is changing rapidly. We have had so much rain in the last week or two, and now it is getting windy and cold. So we will be glad to be leaving tomorrow. To get ready today I did laundry, grocery shopping, and got a hair cut. After packing away loose things, we are ready to go. I did get the industrial velcro to make this job quicker, but have not put it to use. Oh well, next time. Gary did get the tow dolly ready and will load the car in the morning. This past week we were out taking more fall foliage photos, but there is still a lot of green . I think a lot is going to fall without turning bright colors. We are hoping to see more as we go through Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. We are going to leave before the fourth and last Sunday we had planned on being in the Hermon Baptist Church . So we will miss the Mortgage Burning Service which is for a fifteen year mortgage paid off in six years! It has been a great home away from home! Very well attended and many children. While here we attended their missions Sunday and learned about their fellowship for women called Girls Unlimited (which reminds me of the girls fellowship for scrapbooking at First Friends). I meant to go on line and look up Girls Unlimited, but have not done so yet. It has a much broader variety of activities. The church has a large attendance of youth who participated in the mission Sunday and provided a skit another Sunday. They also have the AWANA program. The church grew from the original sanctuary facing Route 2 with additions in the back, and out to the east side which you can not see from these photos. I thought it was unique and a possible gradual growth through more than one addition. The sanctuary is the wider part in the back and the old sanctuary is now the narthex with a sound proof area on second floor of the original church. The new sanctuary is three rows of pews wide in the back of the building with platform across the full width facing the wooded area, narrowing down to two rows. There is a hall at the back of this section going east to Sunday School and Nursery. From this photo you are seeing the windows at the west side of the sanctuary. Every Sunday was a full house so don't know where they will go from here. While taking these photos we took some of the trees at the back of the church lot . They were very pretty . Once again, we say goodbye and move on. We enjoy the variations, but yet much is traditional. We are looking forward to seeing some of our relatives and new friends we have made at campgrounds, when we get down south. We also have addresses and phone numbers for some old friends that we will look up. It will probably be the first of the year before we reach Florida as we plan to be near Columbia SC for a month or two to have some work done on the Jeep. It is warranty work that will take more time than usual to get the new transmission ordered in. So we will stay in that area, providing they do not get any freezing. We needed to get the motorhome where we can depend on the weather staying warm for a few more months. We also are hoping to make a trip back to Ohio during this time. We'll see! We will spend more days than usual on the road in a short period of time. It will be interesting to see how we like traveling this way, as we usually stay in each location for a month. You all take care and pray for us as we travel.
