Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

Foliage beginning a gradual change

Yesterday we decided to take a drive down Kancamagus Highway. Though we have seen these mountains from all angles it is still a beautiful scene. Many people have climbed forty eight mountains here that are 4000 feet or more. In 1982 a couple completed their climb up the last of all 48 when she was age 68 and he was 71. Just think, if they climbed one a year it would have taken a good portion of their lives. Boy, do they put us to shame for exercise! Flume Gorge for three hours was good for us! We have been watching the foliage begin to change since we captured it first in August. Some of the change is so gradual that it is difficult to capture it in photos . However, we will be in these northeastern states for about two more months, hopefully. So we should see the colors in full array. We are looking forward to it. We also decided to make use of the swimming pool a couple days ago when the sky was clear and it was good and warm. Gary says, "Not the water!". We had the pool all to ourselves. From it we could see Mt Washington and even the smoke from COG Railroad taking tourists up the mountain 6288 feet. We should have gone to the pool again today, however, the winds were pretty strong. They say that this is from Gustav. So we are wondering what Hanna will do to us since it is coming up the coast??
Since we did not go to the pool today, I caught Gary at his best ! This is such a peaceful nice campground and has a nice setting. I strongly recommend it.
I have written to some of you telling about our trip Tuesday into Littleton, NH to do laundry and get groceries. We have been there four or five times while in NH, but did not take the time to walk the main street. But after a fellow RVer here at Twin Mountain told us about Chutter's , we decided to check it out. It is in the Guinness Book of World Records as having the longest candy counter . So I went back to the car for the camera while Gary went on to an Art Store for supplies. I took pictures of the counter from the first foot to the last foot , being 112 feet . It is all penny candy at $9.29 per pound, no two alike. Needless to say, we did not buy any since that is three times the usual. They also had delicious chocolates and fudges . I know that because Gary shared his sample piece with me. It started at $16. a pound. We did not get any of that either. You will see later, why.
Littleton had many unique shops and restaurants , but that seems to be the par for NH. And they are still restoring more . The street behind the stores on the main street boasted a covered bridge with shops and a small falls in the river there. They do not have much in chain stores or restaurants. I suppose this helps the tourist trade. They do seem to have a lot of travelers through the state. I'm sure that they still manage to do pretty well during skiing time also. Last year was or almost was a record year for snow here, with heavy snows two or three times a week. As we said before, we will be out of here before that!!
And Verlyn, for you I took this photo of a puzzle that I tried to put together. I only spent two days on it as the pieces were so much alike in shape and size. I am sure that I had some in the wrong places. It was even possible to have edge pieces wrong. But you did not know it until you were filling in. After doing this, I decided that there was no way I was going to try doing the rhododendron!!! I will bring it to you!
Today we loaded the scooter up on the back of the motorhome in preparation for our move. We had it loaded on the back of the jeep when we moved before. So we will see how this feels???

Just curious... Why didn't you buy the fudge? Did you 'splain that and we missed it? It is really good. But so are many other things in Littleton. Did you see the working grist mill or eat on the river overhang at the cafe?
