Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

First day of Sightseeing

Today is a rainy/overcast day which I will put to good use here at HOME. I have many projects which need work and finished. But I also manage to read. Just finished a book last night and started another.
Yesterday we went to see Finger Lake area and some falls. It is interesting how the valleys run through New York causing many long lakes with falls and gorges around them. Taughunnock Falls at Cayuga Lake was the first we saw.
Then we went on to Watkins Glen State Park at Seneca Lake which boasts 800 stone steps to the top of it's falls. The entrance shows only the lower portion of falls and the walkway we will cross after going up stairs inside the mountain.
The water falls at Watkins Glen descend like steps of a staircase.
Level stretches between falls are like stair treads and real staircases made of stone which lead you around it .
Gary was able to walk under the falls and this is the photo after walking under it, looking back.
He also saw the bird nest along the way.
You might wonder why Gary is experiencing all of this. ---- I turned back after about one-third of the climb as I need hand rails to be safe. Ha-ha, there were not any. This might not be a problem going up, but coming back down would be another story! Gary did not have problem with this as he probably was worried about his plight in having to get me back. But on the other hand he is the one who had the FALL the first day in the campground on wet wooden steps! So who do we need to worry about?
Gary also got a kick out of this row of trailers that are actively in use near Watkins Glen. Bet you thought one was ours! Not! Ours is small enough, can't imagine getting HALF of our stuff in one of these!
We were also intrigued by this house/office at this cemetery.
Hope you have not been bored with all of this, but it has been good practice for me, and I think I know ways to make it work quicker next time. It's been fun.
Now I need to get on some business phone calls. Talk with you again later.
