Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

AT MESA REGAL, seems like OLD HOME WEEK

After our last hectic week at work, we wound down with a church picnic on Saturday, October 14th. It was fun and good food though we were late getting there because Gary had to sort mail at the resort first.
Pastor Dave and wife, Allie making sure the
children were having fun!

Ray and Betty, friends that we made back in 2015.
She keeps telling me that she is so glad that we are back.
Ray had been so sick with Valley Fever two
years ago. Doing much better now, but much thinner.
The kids sure enjoyed the pinata!!

And the food was well taken care of!!
Our former SS teacher and part time pastor from two years ago and his wife had just left for a two week vacation. But it was great to see them again before they left.  Seems so many had major health issues since we were there last. Just thankful that they are doing better now!!
On Sunday, the 15th, we went again to Red Mountain Cafe' for dinner. After ordering our meals another table full came in from Trinity Baptist. When we finished eating, they were adamant that we move to their table to visit. So we met more people from church.  One of the ladies was wife of the former pastor who started the church in 1970. Unfortunately, he passed away two years ago. But it was great to meet her and the rest of the group!!

Former pastor's wife in the white.

Monday was our move to Mesa Regal!  It was a good and easy move. We were so glad to get into a decent size lot with no hindrances for parking. But we are fifteen blocks farther away from the Regal Hall and office complex. Maybe we will get more exercise this way!!  After getting the motorhome set up again, we loafed the rest of the day and again on Tuesday.
This is the site that we left at Meridian Resort.
Notice our motorhome nose right on the edge of the road.

We had to be especially careful to miss the slide out
on our neighbor's trailer and then missing our
concrete pad, we then had to miss the electric pole
and the boxes.  By time I finished, I always had the
side mirrors all messed up!!
Now to show you our new location:
A good three foot in front of us on the new lot.
Love it!!
Next are views from our front windshield.  Though the neighbors had not yet arrived from the north.

Space between us and our neighbor is big enough for
four vehicles as well as a good size patio.
Not sure if we will need the awning out.
So far I have been in the shade of the motorhome
when sitting out to read.
Debbie, we will get our solor lights put out, but
have to soften the ground with water to do so!!

Our two neighbors to the north of us.
And our orange or grapefruit tree, not sure which it is.
Tuesday we ran about town some and then just loafed after stopping at Walmart for groceries.
Then Wednesday will be a day trip north and east of us.  It is such awesome scenery up that way. So stay tuned.

UPDATE FROM ARIZONA ABOUT A CHANGE IN RESORTS and WINTER PLANS

Since arriving at Apache Junction, we have been busy getting acclimated. Our first two Sundays were spent fellow shipping with old friends at Calvary Baptist in Mesa. We have a church picnic coming up on Saturday that we are looking forward to.
After church this past Sunday, October 8th, Gary decided that we should eat at Olive Garden. Since we had gift cards from our son, Richard and his wife, Lynn, it was a good choice!!! Thanks again Rich and Lynn!!  We had an awesome waiter who was so pleasant and helpful that we took home enough Chicken Alfredo for another three meals for each of us. Eat your heart our Pearl!! I know that is your favorite dish, and he gave us many Andre' mints!!  We'll have to remember to take him his favorite cookies, chocolate chip!!

Gary's belated birthday celebration?

This is our home location in Apache Junction, though we were not happy with our site layout. It sure was a tight squeeze outside.  Because of the angle that we have to drive to get out between the electric light pole and boxes and the front corner of the motorhome, we were not real happy with the site. Gary has been in and out many times and I have driven it twice but that does not really make it any easier.

It is just a short walk to the office and pool complex, so we find that convenient. However, since last weekend, we decided that the job situation was not worth keeping and staying in this park.

So yesterday we went back over to Mesa Regal where we have stayed three other years and made a good deal for a site there.  We will be moving on Monday!! No more working for this winter.

We look forward to our fun activities in that park, Gary's colored pencil workshop which he started a few years back, the genealogy workshop, wood carving, my scrapbooking workshop and a TOPS club meeting all within the park. So we are happy campers!!

Then this morning Gary has had two calls from the nursing home where his sister is located. It seems that her situation is declining. So we ask that you all keep Janet in your prayers, and us also if we decide that we have to make a return trip to Ohio by car. Things can change hour by hour!!
God Bless you all!!
