Canaday's Book Barn, Carlisle, PA

Today we stopped on impulse at Canaday's Book Barn. What a treat! All you "Agape" antique lovers would have been more impressed than we were. Especially Don and Bonnie. This is an old stone barn that Ted Canaday restored to house his book store in town that he had outgrown. The wood flooring went from three inches in width to at least fifteen inches in other areas. It has all been sanded and stained. There is a wood stove just inside the door .There are antique rugs , bookcases , and furniture as well as books . There is a loft full also and the view below is interesting. He told us that it was just an old barn full of straw and pigeon droppings when he began the project. Down the Road Again!

The flowers before the frost, always the prettiest ! But we left them behind at Pumpkin Patch . We left Saturday morning going down Rt. 95 in Maine and through most of Massachusetts taking pictures of the foliage along the way. We also saw these fellows, Wayne, and thought of you. We have been seeing a lot of these three wheel bikes both on the road and in the campgrounds. We stopped at Walmart in Sturbridge, MA the first night for a much needed rest. We weren't sure if we would be allowed to park there as there was a sign "No overnight parking" just as we pulled off the main street. However, it did not apply to WM which was at the back of this large shopping area, thank goodness! There were four of us there for the night and it was quiet.

Sunday we drove on down the road through Hartford, Connecticut in the rain. But the nice thing about Sunday is that there is not much traffic. The foliage was also more colorful regardless of the rain. We went on through Conn and NY, north of the Big Apple, and on into PA.

We had thought about stopping in Scranton where our son had lived and gone to college. But it was too early to quit so went on down the road to Hazleton, PA and found another Walmart. Again there were four of us there for the night. There was an airport near and Gary watched the sky divers there for a while. So the entertainment was free also!

Monday we went on down Rt 81 to Carlisle, PA to a Dogwood Campground back this lane . But you don't see much color here. We decided to stay there for two nights. It is lovely and puts us in mind of Shaker Woods back home. I think that a little more sun shines through , but otherwise is much the same as Shaker. We love it. There are a lot of permanent trailers and such, but not hardly any people now as is not the weekend. They even have a couple little cabins. Tomorrow we will take a side trip with the car to Gettysburg for a change of pace. Then we will head on further south.

The weather has been nicer except for the rain on Sunday. It does not seem nearly as cold! Stay with us!
