Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

MONTANA, WHAT A STATE! PLENTY TO SEE IN GREAT FALLS

Monday, August 7th, we left North and South Dakota, heading on west. We spent one night at a Walmart in North Dakota before going on into Montana.  In Montana we hit a detour on Rt 2 which never reconnected with Rt 2 again. It took us south on Rt 191. What a stressful drive for three hours!!! Narrow berms for one thing, and some wash-outs at edge of road on steep hills. Nothing along that route except farm land and mountains. Our gas tank was well below one quarter tank before we saw any gas station and that was at the end of our trip on 191. Whew!! Don't ever want to get that low again!!
We drove on west to Great Falls which boasts five water falls, and decided to stop there rather than go on to Fort Benton. Checked into Dick's RV Park at the edge of the city and relaxed.
We began our tour the morning of August 9th in Great Falls with a tour of Black Eagle Falls

and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center with so much to read and all very interesting.

From Lewis and Clark we went on to the C M Russell Art Museum. He is one of the most well known Great West Artists.

C M Russell, 1864 - 1926
Included in his museum was his gun collection which I mention a little later again.

His restored log cabin studio was located next door to the museum and his home which was under restoration was also next door.
Inside his studio he worked from a series of firearms as props. As a result of this, Russell’s depictions of hunting and wilderness scenes are infused with accurate renderings of popular western firearms. Many of those were designed by his friend, John Moses Browning (1855 - 1926).

Other artist's works were shown including paintings and bronze castings. Too many to note them.

Also included in the museum was this bar entitled "The Mint"

Russell's end of life mode of travel was also in the museum.

This was enough to fill a day and we know it will be quite a drive to Glacier National Park, so we will leave that for another day. But that was our main goal for going to Montana.  See you soon.
