Starting early
Thursday, September 9th, I began taking pictures as we traveled north to Glacier. We decided on a day trip in the car to determine if we wanted to navigate the roads with the motorhome and car in tow. We did have reservations for the next week to stay in the motorhome just outside of Glacier Park.

The RV Park as seen from the office.
One on top of the other almost!! |
Johnson's restaurant,
greasy spoon where we had lunch after our trip
through the glaciers. |
However, after the day trip, we decided to cancel those reservations and maybe do another trip when there is more snow on the mountains. Like in May, June or September.
It was very hazy so could hardly make out the mountains yet. |
We must be getting closer. |
Ah-h, the red bus tours!
Thought we would take that but no openings!! |
Guess they are going the same direction as we are. |
There is an interesting story about the red buses which have provided tours for over 75 years. There is a fleet of 33 such buses with the roll back canvas top. The current buses were built by White Motor Company between 1936 and 1939. The drivers are known as Jammers from the days when the buses had standard transmissions and the drivers were known to be heard jamming the gears. Ford Motor Company took them all and rebuilt them. Now they have to look for used antique parts when needed for the body and appearance as things wear out. Next time we will ride the bus and leave the driving to them. They are more experienced at seeing the animal life as well.
Here we go!! But Gary is going to have to make a stop to clean the bugs off the windshield. Can't take good pictures this way. The roadside stops are great for taking pictures. But they sure are crowded most of the time. We have had to pass some by.

I need my picture too! |
There were about six or eight red buses at this stop. |
Awe, finally we see snow! |
Tunnel coming up! |
There must still be snow melting!!
Water fall. |
Return via the tunnel. |
Another water fall. |
We can see the switch-back from the
road above. |
Saw one boat on the lake. |
I am sure that we missed seeing much that we might have seen from a tour. Maybe next time. And I sure would like to see more glaciers! But the mountains are always awesome.
I thought that I need to go back through the past nine years and pick out the mountain pictures and compare. New Hampshire, Vermont, North Carolina, Georgia, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Utah and places in between!!
Not sure what else we might do between now and when we leave to head back east. We will leave next Tuesday morning. Stay tuned.
