Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

BEAR LAKE, UTAH and IDAHO

Thursday, July 2nd we took our 4th holiday outing to avoid traffic over the weekend.

We drove north on St. Rt. 89  into the mountains and back down.  Awesome scenery and a beautiful lake.  There is so much space to park a motorhome that we are thinking that we will come back through that way in the fall of 2016 when going to AZ and maybe CA for winter.  In the summer and a little fall of 2016 we will do some northern states that we have not been to yet.  We've been dragging our feet too much!
Looks like someone else is headed to Bear Lake

But also a lot of city traffic headed back
to where we left from.

Beautiful mountains, always something different.

We traveled along Logan River for many miles.
The water was going the opposite direction from us, even
though we were headed down hill some of the time.

This was the direction of much of the road!!
And we were in Cache National Forest.

Arrived at last, and there is much to see in the area.
But we will save most of that for another time.
We are wanting to see water and to picnic today.
The temperature was probably fifteen degrees cooler from where we started, and nice and breezy.
It was awesome!!  And we didn't realize how nice until we got back home and felt the heat off the streets!!
We loved the way that you could drive right down
to the water!

Many farms went right to water's edge also.

We drove into a Idaho State Park on the northeast
side of the lake, much like this and ate under
pavilion and trees.
When leaving the SP we decided to continue on around the lake.  That is when we saw so many campgrounds.  When we got back to Garden City (raspberry city), we stopped for ice cream.  At $1.49 for a large, we thought yea!  Not a bad price and the amount was way too much!!  But we wrapped ourselves around it much as this gal will probably do also.
LaBeau's Sweet Shoppe

Saw a couple such vehicles.
I'd love to have one, but where
would we haul it to our next port of call?

It sure was busy, with picnic tables around the far  side
and in the back yard.

Even an old barn, and many hay fields!

Fun, fun!!

On our drive back through Logan I took a picture of another LDS Temple.  This one looks to be much older than some we have seen.  But not sure.

Anyone can attend their Tabernacles, but only a certain level of membership can go into the Temples. I have read some things about their belief, but nothing that covered this.  Many things we do not agree with, of course, but interesting.
Before we left Logan, we saw the cars being entered for the Show over the weekend.  Gary decided to drive up there on Friday to check out the cars. I am sure that he is enjoying that.

While he is gone, I have baked cookies, cooked potatoes and eggs for salad.  And I still have a watermelon to cut up.  Even alone, we will have our 4th Picnic.  I made pickled beet eggs the other day, but haven't thought of anything else that we must have.  We don't like our left overs to last too long.

These two pictures are of the SS Class that we attend at Layton Hills Baptist at their Potluck.

The couple on the right are from Denver.

The lady sitting down just recently moved here from Louisiana
and is waiting for her house to sell back there.
She has family in this area.
Last Sunday they had a potluck after their service.  We finally got to hear the interim pastor speak and we really enjoyed that.  We also got to sit by he and his wife and visit for a while.   We see so many churches going through change and can only imagine that it is signs of the times since there is so much unrest everywhere.
This is only a small portion of the Polineson singing
group that visited and worshiped with us.  Their
pastor gave the closing prayer, though we did not
understand much of it.  I am sure that God was tuned in!
It was an awesome group!! We have had two such music treats while visiting this church.

This next was just an interesting building that we pass now and then here in town.  Had to share.

And Ben, I had to share this picture of our neighbor's home.  It is quite small and older in style.  It seems that his work schedule is much like yours!  His plates are California, so not sure what he is doing over here. We found out the last time talking with him that he is a Blacksmith at the Heritage Village in Salt Lake City.  He said that it is fun every day!

Another month has passed and we will be moving on the 8th.  So check back and see where we stop.

Donna, I am not big on using Facebook, but I will keep you informed on our location, so that we won't just be two ships that pass in the night.  I still prefer e-mail, but have been trying to learn more about navigating FB.  Take care and drive safely!!
