Ready to Roll

Our History

Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

OCTOBER comes to an end in SOUTH-CENTRAL FLORIDA

OCTOBER, nearing Florida.  Our next stop Friday, October 22 at Walmert along Rt. 301 near Starke, Florida.  Thus one more long day on the road before reaching our SKP Resort near Wauchula.

When the Citrus Tower came into view we were in mid-state.  Closer!!
We arrived at our SKP Resort about noon and began the set-up process.  A lot to do to be settled for the next six months!!  We look forward to seeing every one though it looks a little sparse now. Many will not come south until after the Holidays.  Our objective is to avoid the snow!!
Our first view of the newly painted concrete pad was wonderful!!  Captain Kenny, you did a good job for us!  We are pleased!!

However, our first view of the flower beds was discouraging for me.  A lot of cleaning up to be done here as I think that all of the grass trimmings from the mowers over the summer were blown all over the plants and the red pine bark!!  I have since bought some replacement flowers and small bushes.  But I will have to wait to plant them until they are finished trimming the palm trees.  I should have waited to buy the plants, but liked what I saw when I stopped at LOWE'S.  So I got the cart before the horse!!
Gary got the roof all cleaned off and found a couple cracks in the one air conditioner cover.  That was damage from the hickory nuts in our park in Ohio.  We will be on that same lot next summer so Gary will have to put some more thought into what to do to protect the motorhome from the nuts!!  Otherwise that is a good lot.  And we like that park because of the activities and our friends who we play cards with occassionally.

Gary also got busy and cleaned the outside of the motorhome and pulled the awning out.  It is so nice to be looking through clean windows.  But a stone flipped up from someone's tire on our trip, so we are waiting for the Insurance to get someone out to replace it.  We have been fortunate that our windshield is a two piecer!!  This is the third oue that we have had to have replaced over the past 13 years.

We soon heard from our South Carolina friend, Sandy.  She sent us the picture of her Trunk for Treating.  She is the sweet little "Anne".  She said that they had about 200 kids through the church lot for Trunk or Treat and the guys had to run out for more candy a couple times.  That is good!
"Sandy" the Treat lady!!
A couple days after our arrival Gary got a screen put up over the "Shed" door to keep nosie neighbors out,  But he did have enough space for the men's coffee in the morning!!  He's ready to begin the routine and loves it!!
On our first Sunday at our winter location, we did the TV Service and then went out to dinner at Red Lobster for our 57th Anniversary celebration in Sebring, Florida.  Yummie!!!   I sure had plenty of left overs from my Lobster Linguini.  Two more meals!!
And we had a wonderful waiter!!
HAPPY 57th !!!  Another year flew by!
The following week I began walking the park some and hope to get up to a daily routine!!  Gary got back into his Art Workshops and Shows in Sebring, Florida also.  And our Resort began their weekly Monday breakfasts in the Club House with a Sun 'n' Fun meeting followimg.
This past Sunday we were back in out Sunday School Bible Fellowship and Church Service with the new pastors who settled in over the summer.  And Saturday evening we went to dinner with friends at a Greek Restaurant and to a musical at the South Florida State College in Sebring.  Friends here in our park gave us tickets.  Looks like there are some more good shows, that we will consider going to.  We need to get on track to get the tickets so that the time doesn't get away from us!!  I will show you a few pictures from this musical in the next Blog.  Take care!!
