Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

FIRST MONTH in OHIO

We started off the time in Ohio with the usual and went to our first car show at the Dairy Queen in Lordstown. It was their second show for the season which featured trucks. So it was not very heavily attended. We heard that the week before it was very packed!!
Gary also enjoyed his first coffee meeting with Pastor Pete.

My favorite!
I found a church rummage sale in Ellsworth, Ohio that I went through on Friday where I found a table full of rubber stamps for card making and such.  Though I did buy some on Friday, I stopped back on Saturday when I figured that I could get more at 50% off.  Since I got there just when they were packing up to close I got them for 75% off!!!   So I went through them one by one and took all that I thought I or my friends would use. I know that I will not do much card making until after we stop traveling and I stop scrapbooking.  Don't have enough space for all of the stuff at one time!!
There were still many left!!

Friday, May 24th, I had my first scrapbooking day with Salem Ohio friends. As usual we had a lot of fun talking and catching up!!  I was prepared this time, so I did get a good amount of work done. I must remember to prepare for the next time, which won't be for a month. I like it more often, but will enjoy what I get!
My friend shared with us that her husband finally got a car of his dreams. He had been looking for over a year.
I love it, Bob!!  We can always dream!!

On Saturday, May 25th, Gary went to Burton, Ohio to see the Civil War Re-enactment. He always enjoys those.
This man from Zoar, Ohio shared info about
the blacks who served on the Confederate
side. He was very knowledgeable and
Gary enjoyed talking with him.

We also began our doctor appointments, which is usual when we return to Ohio. Now that we have a permanent spot to stay when in Florida, we will need to get lined up with at least a primary care physician for our time there.  At our age we need to be prepared, I guess.
Our Memorial Day this year was spent at "home" where we are parked at NEO Retreat Center just north of Rt 224 in Berlin Center. Victor and a high school friend, Dan and our friend, Rick joined us for the afternoon. Had a good visit and plenty of good food.

Victor with his new car!
We haven't been for a ride in it yet, but probably
will before the summer is over.

The locusts sure have been out in full force!
A continuous chorus!!

I took a walk around our part of the Retreat Center and took pictures of the best!
Our "home" and the pavilion across street
Our "home" and lot.
Our closest neighbors:

We look out our door at this one.
We wonder if a tree limb landed on this at some time.
A neighbor said that it was brand new when it
was brought in here.

Neighbor that we see out our living area windows.
The neighbors on opposite sides of our direct neighbors are more our age and in the park more often than our direct neighbors. We need to get better acquainted!

Other nicely decorated sites:

The church/meeting building.

A private permanent site near us.
I need to be out walking every day, but the rain has been a deter-ant. It is pretty cool out there today, but just dry enough for Gary to get some work done around outside that he has wanted to do.  It should protect us more in future rains.
Gary has also kept busy with his drawing.

One of his little 'girls'.
Enjoy the pictures and maybe we will get to see more of you while here!! Take care!!
