Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

VISITING FRIENDS in LEXINGTON SC

Yes, we are right on the roadway!
We arrived at Mr. Z's RV Park on Friday, April 1st.  It is a small park near Lexington SC where we plan on visiting with friends. I think that Mr. Z had a full park when Gary called for reservations and we got the last spot available as we are on the end of the line with very little area for sitting out. It is a good thing that we plan on running around much of the time here. It is a neat park and well watched, so we feel secure here.
On Saturday we went to Walmart to replenish our food, stopped at the local Flea Market and the Post Office. So it was a quiet day except for the traffic.
Sunday we went to our usual church here and met up with our friends who we first met back in October of 2008. After church we went to Grecian Garden for dinner with Sandy, Mike and their daughter Amanda; and with Johnnie and Mary. It was great to do some catching up and dinner was delicious. Though it was the beginning of my undoing!! My diet that is!!
Gary spent the day Monday running around big time, going to get an oil change, then later to get some new tires on the car, and last but certainly not least - three trips to the Geek squad with the computer. But we are glad that it is all taken care of now.
Tuesday, April 5th -
Maxine who manages the Senior Center
and Melanie who drives their bus.

The Center has had an addition to the building so there is so much more space than when we visited there before. It is really nice!! This is just part of their new space!
We joined our friends Sandy, Edna, Gene and Bo at the Senior Center where Gary was asked to teach a colored pencil art class for the three weeks that we will be here. With those plans completed, Sandy and I joined the group of Seniors to go on a shopping trip about Columbia. We ended the shopping with lunch at Golden Corral, much more of my undoing!! But I was careful??
Gary decided to spend the day at home on Wednesday while Sandy and I ran about shopping. Window shopping for me!

Thursday, April 7th -
After Bingo at the Center,
Gary has his first Art Class and Sandy and I did a little scrapbooking.

That evening we went to Sandy's with Bo and Brenda for sandwiches and to play 5-Crowns for the evening. Fun, fun!! It is so much more fun and unpredictable when playing with five rather than just two players.

Sandy's azaleas are beautiful!! And we were surprised to see their new patio and car port that is being added to their home. Still more work to be done, but it is looking very nice.

Sandy and Molly, inseparable.
Molly is so spoiled that she is adorable!

Friday turned out to be laundry day for me with another shopping day on Saturday. Sandy and I went to thrift stores and yard sales. We did not find too much, but it was fun. I did run into some Creative Memories scrapbooking albums and pages for a song!! I couldn't pass those up. We stopped at CookOut for lunch. I'd never heard of this hamburger place before. It was busy there though.

Sunday, April 10th -
Church again and dinner with Johnnie and Mary at Sandy and Mike's this time. Gary loves to hear the friend's work stories, especially Johhnie's. His careers have been so interesting.

Sandy and Mary
We did so much visiting that we never did get the cards out. Mary and Johnnie have done so much traveling that her stories are interesting also. It was great and
Sandy's great cooking was awesome also!

We thought this log rack at Mr. Z's was interesting -- I wonder if it could be tipped over??

Tomorrow we will be driving to Iva SC, about two hours away from here, to visit with back home friends, Jack and Jan. We are looking forward to meeting up with them again.
So check back and we will keep you up on our activities.
