Ready to Roll

Our History

My photo
Ohio, United States
Having recently retired we are fulfilling our long time dream. We began our camping life with a tent in 1969 adjusting as each of our three sons arrived over the years and gradually progressed to a 32' Class A in 2007. Even after our sons became too busy with their own interests, we continued dreaming over the years. The Louisville, KY 2003 Great North American RV Rally and the book "Movin' On" convinced us that a motorhome after retirement was really for us! In 2007 we sold our home and disposed of most of our belongings and awaited the wife's retirement on February 1, 2008. We were out in our first motorhome ten times in our first summer in 2007, with our grandson joining us eight of those ten times. Since he must stay behind with his mom and dad to continue school, we told him he can join us on vacations (by car or plane) anywhere we are as we travel the US. Imagine the history lessons he could acquire! However, Mom and Dad don't look at it that way, especially the flying. Fortunately we don't miss work one bit!! We just miss the friends there. We have many hobbies to keep us busy when we decide to sit still for a day. Hope to see you on the road.

MORE OF SOUTH CAROLINA

April 10, Monday -
Our trip to Iva, SC to visit with Ohio friends was an awesome day. We found Jack and Jan to be doing well following some health issues over the past couple of years. They keep very busy now with a daughter who has serious health issues. Much prayer needed there. Makes us realize how vulnerable we all are.
Thanks Jack and Jan for the wonderful visit and a delicious lunch!!
The drive to Iva was wonderful also!!
The next two days were spent scrapbooking at Sandy's and errands about town with stops at Thrift Shops and Yard Sales. Especially fun for Sandy and I!! Thursday was another day with the Senior Center. They had a field trip to a Buelha Church for lunch and bingo. The hall was full by time that we played.
.
Friday was Gary's second art lesson at the center and he was pleased with the progress that the gals are making. Sandy and I did our usual afternoon scrapbooking at her house again. I am pleased with my progress and the good discounts at Walgreen to get prints that I need. I am worried that I will not have enough left to do with my friends when we get to Ohio! It will give me more time to visit.
Saturday, April 16th-
We drove to Newberry SC for what was advertised as an attic sale. It turned out to be an area BBQ Festival.  More bluegrass!

Sandy and I found some nice buys, not that we needed them though!! I was getting ready for Christmas and Sandy was getting to scrapbook her family recipes with what we bought. We also stopped at a church sale where Gary found a few books and I filled a box of $16. by price tag that I only paid $5 for. So I have more reading material for sure.
Following a short rest at home we then went to a neighborhood Lutheran church for a concert.

It was great with two entertainers and a lunch. I just had to buy a CD of the 22 year old fellow, Singin' Steven. We were amazed at the quality of voice from such a young fellow!! And the tenor in the group amazed us at the high pitches that he could make!! Reminds me of Brian in the Anchormen that we heard back home several years ago..
Sunday was another full day!! After church we went to Texas Road House with Sandy, Mike, Mary and Johnnie. I told Mike that I thought we were going to end up in NC after driving so far to get there! But the food and fellowship was worth it.
We then went back to Sandy and Mike's to sit outside and enjoy their new patio. They then went with us to another musical at a different church in Red Bank SC.

We enjoyed Bluegrass this time.
Our Monday is back to normal with a load of laundry, downloading pictures and doing a Blog. It is good to lay back for a day and the week looks much the same until Sunday.
We will relax, with the exception of Gary cleaning one side and the back of the motorhome. The dropping of pine cones on the awnings has torn one of the bedroom slide awnings. Of course, there were deteriorating prior to this. Gary has made some phone calls to check on replacing it to find that the cost will most likely be about $400. It seems that every time we need to do repairs on this, it blows a hole in the pocket.
Our friends from Ohio, Bill and Esther, who are on their trip north from Florida had a tire blow, causing damage to their fifth wheel.  If not one thing, it is another. Just glad that they did not get hurt and that the unit can still make it the rest of the way to their home in Ohio.

I just had to add a couple pictures from our visit in Port Charlotte and Arcadia Florida in March. The children there are so enjoyable!!
Bontu, one of two  adoptees from Ethiopia for
the other family since we were there last.

Mariah, the youngest addition to one of the families
since we were there last.
We do so enjoy all of the children when we go there. They are all home schooled, but so well adjusted!!
Take care and we will soon be telling you what we did for the last week here in SC.
